Assistant Editor

Responsibilities:
- Assist the Editor in all aspects of content creation and production of daily newspaper
- Manage op-ed section, editing letters to the editor and selecting relevant syndicated columns and cartoons
- Manage calendar of events
- Edit reporter's copy and help develop news and feature stories
- Edit press releases submitted by community organizations
- Process photos for print publication and web posting
- Follow the Associated Press Style guidelines for consistent formatting and citation
- Proofread and revise content for grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors
- Coordinate with graphic designers and other team members to maintain production schedule and enhance visual elements of content
- Additional duties may include writing, page layout, coordinating with freelancers and other newsroom tasks

Qualifications:
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail
- Proficiency in web-based CMS software and Google Workspace
- Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is a plus
- Familiarity with Associated Press Manual Style or other style guides
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- At least two years of newspaper experience is preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,500.00 - $47,500.00 per year
