Job Description


THE POSITION:

The Assistant Director of Youth Services assists in leading the organization’s 32-bed emergency children’s shelter for children. The Assistant Director of Youth Services ensures that the NWACS mission is accomplished with every decision and action taken to serve the children in our care. The Assistant Director of Youth Services is responsible for the programmatic elements of the Shelter, including but not limited to supporting the design and implementation of evidence-based programs that support the Shelter’s missions and values and advance youth development. This position will oversee the medication management program, serve as a database administrator, and perform all related tasks. The Assistant Director of Youth Services will report directly to the Director of Youth Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures the proper care, safety, and supervision of Shelter residents at all times.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Youth Services and the management team, seeks to create or enhance current services that positively impact the residents.
  • Works closely with the Director of Youth Services to ensure the needs of the children placed in the Shelter's care are met and care is coordinated.
  • Supervise and support all Youth Services staff.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with all policies and applicable laws.
  • Provides effective leadership and oversight to ensure the delivery of best practice services.
  • Ensures that all state licensing standards are being adhered to and all contractual requirements are being fulfilled and full compliance is maintained.
  • Communicates directly with the state licensing unit for any audits, questions, or inquiries.
  • Maintains confidentiality and privacy regarding all residents' information per Shelter policy and all applicable federal and state laws/regulations.
  • Oversee medication management program, including medication management, accuracy of records, and staff training.
  • Serve as part of the on-call Youth Services team; serve as staff for referrals and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Oversee an evidence-based youth development program to effectively serve and meet the needs of the residential population; regularly review and revise existing programs as needed.
  • Oversee the NWACS client information system, Apricot, to include database management, training, and accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Oversee program-wide data collection, data mining, and analysis to ensure practices and decision-making align with evidence and research-based findings and best practices of trauma-centered care.
  • Build connections and network with community agencies, providers, and DCFS personnel to positively represent NWACS in the community and ensure the highest quality services for our youth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
  • 21+ Years of age.
  • 8+ years of experience working with at-risk youth, or foster care.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a supervisor role
  • Bachelors in human services or a related field required. Masters preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

The demands described are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform
the essential functions of this position.
  • Tasks may involve walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks.
  • Must submit to pre-employment a drug screen as well as random drug screens when directed.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of personal automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record required to
drive shelter vehicles for shelter business.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding all Children’s Shelter residents' information in accordance with NWACS policy and all applicable Federal and state laws/regulations.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory training, staff meetings, and all other events, as required.
  • Set, maintain and communicate appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely manner per NWACS procedures.

Position Pay & Benefits:
  • $60,000-$70,000 depending on experience.
($60K = Bachelors, $65K = Masters, $5K discretionary stipend = leadership experience)
