Summary
The School of Information is seeking an Assistant Director of Recruiting and Admissions. Working as a member of the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) team, this role will provide leadership in the functional areas of recruiting, admissions, application development and systems integration, for the school. The staff member will work closely with the Associate Director of Recruitment and Admissions, the academic program directors and lead staff members for each degree program, the marketing and communications team, and the school administration.

Responsibilities*
Recruitment
  • Lead the development of short- and long-term recruitment strategies and activities for the School of Information's five academic programs aligning with UMSI's strategic recruitment goals. Establish targeted recruitment groups, timelines, goals, and integrate strategies related to UM, UMSI, and DEI goals.
  • Work with leadership within the School of Information including the UMSI marketing and communications team, academic program faculty directors and staff, and others, being the project manager on strategic analysis and assessment and planning of Recruitment activities.
  • Represent the School of Information both on- and off-campus to prospective students, families, university advisors and others.

Admissions
  • Design and oversee the application process for all UMSI academic degree programs; collaborate with UM and vendor partners. Responsible for the launch and updates of applications and application systems. Oversee the integration of the academic program strategic goals into application language and updates.
  • Serve as an important contributor for all degree program admissions and scholarship evaluation process, including codifying the review standards with faculty and the Office of the General Counsel.
  • Implement scholarship strategy to maximize recruitment within budget and develop practices that contribute to a diverse student body. Identify strategic approaches to applying new awards, and provide analysis and strategy for scholarship distribution for new programs.
  • Lead strategy for successful matriculation of admitted students. Ensure coordination of yield activities across all degree programs. Strategize processes that support quality and analyze yield in connection to UMSI goals.

Strategic Initiatives and Systems
  • Be the primary lead for system integration, updates, and recommendations; work with UMSI computing teams to develop reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Oversee processes and procedures from first inquiry through admission decision. Analyze trends and make recommendations on courses of action.
  • Provide leadership of all recruitment, marketing and systems integration for all academic programs in the School of Information.
  • Oversee admissions decision processing for multiple degree programs; leverage multiple staff and systems. Maintain liaison with all organizations on campus units, and individuals involved in the admissions process.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversee team consisting of:
    • 2 full-time Senior Recruiting and Admissions Coordinators;
    • 1 full-time Admissions and Administrative Coordinator;
    • 15-20 temporary professional and student staff.

Service, Learning, and Professional Development
  • Support the mission and goals of the school and the strategic priorities of the Dean
  • Serve on school, university or professional organization committees/boards
  • Invest in individual commitments to support diversity, equity and inclusion

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in recruitment, admissions or related field.
  • Experience with developing and launching new projects, programs, or initiatives; comfort with ambiguity, iteration, continuous improvement, managing multiple, and evolving priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, data analysis, and interpretation abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently.
  • Experience managing full-time/temporary staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Ability to represent the School of Information positively through a strong, student-centered approach.

Work Schedule
Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
Work Locations
Will require travel to multiple locations on & off campus and will occasionally require domestic travel. Remote work is acceptable for this role, in accordance with UMSI Remote Work Policy and with supervisor approval. Remote work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change depending upon business needs.

Successful candidates must comply with federal, state, and local law, and/or university policies or agreements that require the university to implement specific privacy and security safeguards, including but not limited to ITAR, EAR, HIPAA, FERPA, and FISMA. This position is responsible for protecting data and information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion; and following applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files and release of data internally or externally to the University of Michigan.
