Assistant Director of Communications
Department: Communications

FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: BCS Teacher pay scale with Assistant Director index ($61,467.46 - $83,850.49)
Summary
Responsible for collaborating with the Executive Director of Communications (EDoC) to creatively and strategically execute a communication plan across multiple platforms that effectively engages and informs school district stakeholder groups. Provide oversight of all online platforms, work to implement web and social media based communication strategies, web design and school level and district messaging in cooperation with the Communications Department and in alignment with ADA compliance requirements.

Content creation & management
• Maintain district website, app, and social accounts.
o Identify, direct, and implement all requested content changes.
o Design and post graphic files, attachments, and photographs.
o Evaluate and study traffic patterns and adjust content and or layout to maximize traffic flow.
• Create and schedule district level NTouch messages.
• Prepare and execute emergency messaging as needed.
• Identify and help implement district level projects such as levies, bonds, enrollment, surveys, and recruitment efforts.
• Serve as lead user of integrated content management system.

Content monitoring
• Meet with school district department directors/administrators to create, update, and monitor departmental content.
• Direct and lead the monitoring of school level sites for content and effectiveness.
• Manage day-to-day activity across platforms.
• Capture and analyze data/results, establishing benchmarks to measure effectiveness.
• Develop timelines and content calendars and monitor progress ensuring deadlines are met.

Compliance
• Direct and accurately assess the district and school level websites for ADA compliance.
• Monitor social media sites for offensive and inappropriate content, and remedy infractions by blocking offenders and/or notifying social media help centers.

Training & Support
• Provide training and access as needed on all communications platforms, including messaging and social media.
• Provide training on ADA compliance to all school webmasters.
• Serve as liaison and product expert for the communications platform. Includes troubleshooting, accepting/making customer services calls to the provider(s) and fully understanding and communicating all system(s) capabilities.
• Work with State contacts on data integration into all messaging platforms.
• Provide training and support to school level administrators and webmasters.
• Coach school level communication leaders to implement communication plans.
• Stay current on social media tools and best practices to make recommendations for expanding social media platforms.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.A., B.S., B.S.N, etc.) in a related field. Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design, or electronic/digital media preferred. Degree or advanced training in data collection/management preferred.
  • Previous Experience:
    • Demonstrated graphic design experience using Adobe Creative Suite and ability to train others.
    • Experience working with a content management system (CMS).
    • Prior successful experience with social and digital media marketing.
    • A strong understanding of technical support and data management.
    • Prior experience managing multiple projects to completion simultaneously.
    • Prior demonstrated expertise in creating website content, content management and performance analysis.
    • 2+ years of leadership experience preferred.
    • Preference given to candidates with extensive school communications experience.
    • Ability to interpret data.
    • Experience with branding, crisis and/or integrated communication plans and campaigns.

Technology Skills: To perform this job successfully, the following technology proficiencies and platform knowledge will be required: Thrillshare, Adobe Creative Suite, Agorapulse, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Forms, Survey Monkey, Jotform, YouTube Studio, Smore, Canva, Peachjar, and MyVRSpot. Candidate must also possess a willingness to learn new platforms and systems that support Berkeley County School's initiatives.
