Job Summary
Serves as a temporary, full-time informal assistant for K-12summer camp students. Assistant counselors help summer camp counselors be anintegral part of the summer camp instructional planning and implementationprocess.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall safety of all students within the group.
- Conducts instructional time in the absence of the Camp Counselor.
- Must have a knowledge of all weekly activities and assist the instructor in teaching daily concepts in the classroom and while on off-campus field trips.
- Assist in the registration process (i.e. collect fees/forms, interact with parents/guardians, and perform daily sign-in/sign-out processes).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Teaching assistants have completed at least one full-time academic year of college (minimum 24 credit hours). All applicants over 18 years of age must pass a federal background check. Ability to complete CPR and First Aid certification (training provided upon hire).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Capable of standing, squatting, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis.
- Capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to create and manage effective learning environments (physical space, materials, activities, classroom management).
- Patience and ability to work well with others in a team setting.
- Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
- Effective, enthusiastic communication of science content to a youth audience.
Completed courses in Biology (and/or other related sciences). Formal or informal science education and/or summer camp experience is preferred. Experience working with children preferred. CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred.
