What you will be doing:
The Assistant Counsel will be responsible for providing legal review, advice and counsel to areas of the company including, but not limited to, annuity operations and administration, annuity product management, distribution, marketing and compliance.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing legal support for policyholder related matters across the annuity product lines, including claims matters and complaints
- Drafting annuity contract and rider forms
- Conducting legal research and draft memos for the business areas of the company and other attorneys within the Legal Department
- Providing legal support to distribution and agent contract and licensing associates
- Reviewing and advising on company contracts, ensuring that such contracts include appropriate and necessary provisions designed to protect the company and its interest as well as provisions necessary to comply with applicable laws and regulations
- Consulting with the General Counsel on matters of broad impact, corporate wide issues, or significant departures from established company policies and practices and perform other responsibilities delegated by senior attorneys within the Legal Department

Requirements:
What you need to be successful:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Excellent academic credentials
- License to practice law in Ohio or the ability to obtain an Ohio law license after hire
- At least 3-6 years of experience practicing law
- Experience with corporate, regulatory and insurance law in a legal department or law firm strongly preferred
- Experience with fixed annuities, fixed indexed annuities, registered indexed linked annuities and variable annuities is preferred
- Experience drafting agreements is preferred
