Pay Range: $30-$34/hour Reports To: Career Services Coordinator
Location: LEAP Salem office (May 1- July 4); Salem State University (July 8 - August 15)
ABOUT LEAP: LEAP for Education (LEAP) is a non-profit organization that empowers underserved youth to achieve social and economic mobility by cultivating personal, educational, and career growth.
ABOUT SUMMER WORK PROGRAM: LEAP’s Summer Work Program is a 6-week program for students aged 14-19 to get early job experience, explore their interests, learn how to set goals, and build their long-term career readiness skills.
Program Goals:
- Provide students with high-quality career development experiences that foster positive connection to peers, employers, mentors, and the larger community
- Support the development of key soft skills through workshops and applied learning
- Engage students in projects that connect to a career of interest
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Career Services Coordinator, the SWP Assistant Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the 9th & 10th grade cohorts of the Summer Work Program. This position ensures that the cohorts meet programmatic objectives by ensuring they have the materials, resources, and support they require. The Assistant Coordinator acts as a supervisor to 9th & 10th grade cohort summer staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Helps to execute key administrative tasks in the lead up to the summer including processing registration paperwork, maintaining student rosters, and supporting other operational needs
- Preps & organizes 9th & 10th grade cohort curriculum materials
- Supports the onboarding and training of summer staff
- Supervises 9th & 10th grade Cohort Facilitators
- Oversees and ensures the 9th & 10th grade cohorts keep to identified schedules and are making appropriate progress towards programmatic objectives and goals
- Support Career Mentor Associates in ensuring 9th & 10th student-mentor pairs are meeting and working on their summer projects
- Helps to assess and evaluate programmatic outcomes
- Help to foster an engaging, fun, and inclusive environment for students
- Provides other administrative and programmatic support as needed
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Experience working with high school youth and/or young adults
- Program coordination/management experience a plus
- Staff supervisory experience a plus
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Committed to values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Must agree to a CORI and SORI background check
- Familiarity with Google Drive
- Proficient or fluent Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole language skills a plus
