Position Information
The Assistant Chief of Road Maintenance assists in administering the activities of the Road Maintenance Division of the Department of Facility Maintenance; supervises and assists in directing the major construction program of the Division; and performs other related duties as required.

The current vacancy is with the Department of Facility Maintenance, Road Maintenance Division. This position assists the Division Chief in administering the Division's programs and activities relating to road and stream maintenance and other assigned responsibilities, ensure subordinates adhere to applicable safety practices, rules, and procedures, and performs all duties in a safe and acceptable manner to ensure the safety of self, subordinates, and the general public.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty or a related field.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit. Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four years of registered professional engineering experience, including or supplemented by two years of administrative engineering experience.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and techniques of engineering as applied in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of public works projects such as streets, bridges, storm drains, flood control systems, etc.; laws, rules and regulations pertaining to construction and financing of public works projects; construction practices, methods, costs, materials and equipment; principles and practices of organization, public administration, public relations and reporting; and the ability to organize, direct and coordinate the work of subordinates; review, analyze and revise plans and specifications relating to a variety of civil engineering projects; confer with design engineers and advise on the development of construction plans and specifications, new materials, etc.; prepare engineering reports and budget estimates; deal effectively with engineers, public officials, and the public.
Non-Qualifying Experience:
Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1. Current State of Hawaii registration as a Professional Engineer.
Applicants with a current out-of-state professional engineer license must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
