Who we are and what we do:
The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees 14 adult prisons across the state, housing some 21,000 offenders. In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections. The department operates 44 Probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state.
The Tennessee Department of Correction operates safe and secure prisons and provides effective community supervision in order to enhance public safety.
How you make a difference in this role:
The Office of Clinical Services is responsible for the provision of medical and behavioral health ser-vices and manages a team of li-censed medical and behavioral health care providers. The division includes pharmacy, nursing, clinical support, and behavioral health. The division also manages the vendor contracts that provide the delivery of medical and behavioral health services and developing policies that guide the delivery of those services.
The Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO), is primarily responsible for coordination and oversight of the clinical services delivery system in private facility institutional clinics, over-sight of health, behavioral health, and substance use care contracts; policy and procedure development; quality assurance initiatives; and maintenance of clinical services' performance standards for ACA accreditation, under the administrative direction of the Tennes-see Department of Correction (TDOC) Chief Nursing Officer.
The ACNO is additionally responsible for case management: planning and coordination for the provision of health and mental health care in the community after release, Infection Control, and Health Education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews the delivery of clinical services by private contractors to determine the appropriate-ness of care and directs and initiates any corrective action as necessary.
- Visits private institutions a minimum of twice per and as needed, and reviews institutional processes to ensure delivery of care is being provided in accordance with contractual provisions.
- Meets regularly with TDOC Chief Nursing Officer and other staff to ensure continuous quality improvement is being monitored and performance improvement plans are being developed.
- Performs risk management assessments of the delivery of Clinical Services at private facilities and provides formal written feedback to the Assistant Commissioner of Clinical Services.
- Works in coordination with the TDOC Chief Nursing Officer to investigate and directly re-solve issues related to the delivery of clinical services at private facilities.
- Actively reviews policy drafts and supports the Chief Nursing Officer in program policy coordination and regarding clinical care issues.
- Supervision over of and or management of the Statewide Case Management Coordinator, Statewide Health Educator, and Statewide Infectious Disease Coordinator.
- Demonstrates an understanding of Departmental policy and program objectives and clearly understands and communicates those requirements to others.
- Maintains effective working relationships with others by responding promptly and constructively to inquiries or requests of staff, resolving conflicts immediately, and collaborating fully with others to meet departmental objectives.
- Has an active role on the following committees: Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Morbidity and Mortality Review, and Infection Control.
- Provides executive assistant support to the Clinical Services executive team to include but not limited to the Assistant Commissioner of Clinical Services, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and the Director of Behavioral Health as directed.
- Development of Concept Briefs and In Progress Reports as requested or required to intro-duce to senior management a concept or progress of an initiative.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse and experience equivalent to five years of registered nursing, of which one year must be nursing supervisory or consultation experience.
OR
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse, education equivalent to a diploma in registered nursing from an accredited school of nursing or bachelor's degree in nursing from an ac-credited college or university, and experience equivalent to four years of registered nursing, of which one year must be nursing supervisory or consultation experience.
OR
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse, education equivalent to a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, and experience equivalent to three years of registered nursing, of which one year must be nursing supervisory or consultation experience.
