Job Overview
This position assists the Director of Engineering and is responsible for the technical equipment and IT systems at the studio and multiple transmitter locations. In addition, the Assistant Chief Engineer will supervise the Technical Operations and Electronics Maintenance staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Works well in a collaborative, team environment and to develop good internal and external relationships including vendors and consultants.
- Plans, installs and maintains Studio and Transmitter equipment at multiple locations in collaboration with the Dir. of Engineering, other managers and staff.
- Correctly analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs the video, audio and RF systems required for the efficient and reliable operation of a broadcast facility.
- Has knowledge of and maintains adherence to applicable FCC rules and regulations as they pertain to the station's transmission systems, communications systems, and on-air operations.
- Installs and repairs PCs Servers, and maintains and configures network systems, routers, firewalls and other key components.
- Effectively works in a support capacity with users of Windows based computer network.
- Performs regular and routine administrative duties.
- Provides direct supervision and training to technical staff as needed.
- Works with technical staff to bring performance to a higher level by communicating standards, offering assistance and advice. Keeps lines of communication open at all levels.
- Ensures that everyone working in Engineering, including consultants, contractors, and vendors, follow required safety procedures. Follows same safety procedures while working.
- Pays close attention to high voltage safety. Reports safety violations to the appropriate personnel.
- Stays current with technology and techniques.
- Attends training as required.
- Available on-call for emergencies, extreme weather and other assignments. Work late nights and overnights on short notice.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 Years prior experience with the maintenance and repair of television broadcast studio, UHF/VHF transmitter and microwave systems.
- Prior experience with the supervision of maintenance and operations staff.
- SBE Certification preferred
- Working knowledge of relevant aspects of IT systems including hardware, software applications and associated products including: Windows based servers and associated desktop/laptop systems, Windows domain administration, firewalls, routers, and E-Mail system administration.
- Proven ability to function effectively under deadlines and in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively and find solutions for staff.
- Basic knowledge of current FCC and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Computer literacy is mandatory.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and other physical activity associated with equipment installation.
- Must be able to drive on company business. A valid driver's license and clean driving record as determined by the Company required.
Pay range: $70,000 - $90,000 / year
