The AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate seeks to hire a motivated and experienced General Engineer (801) or Physical Scientist (1301) via lateral reassignment at the DR-02 or DR-03 level to serve as Assistant to the RX Chief Engineer, Plans & Programs Branch (RXOP), Integration and Operations Division. This position is located at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton OH. Relocation candidates will not be considered.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Assistant to the Chief Engineer, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (RX). As a member of the Plans and Programs Branch, utilizes multidisciplinary professional knowledge in areas including but not limited to engineering, materials science, manufacturing technologies, and/or program management to support the Chief Engineer in developing and implementing Systems Engineering and Program Management (SEPM) principles across the directorate with a particular focus on applied research (6.2), advanced technology development (6.3), and other high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) efforts.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Assistant to the Chief Engineer, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (RX). As a member of the Plans and Programs Branch, utilizes multidisciplinary professional knowledge in areas including but not limited to engineering, materials science, manufacturing technologies, and/or program management to support the Chief Engineer in developing and implementing Systems Engineering and Program Management (SEPM) principles across the directorate with a particular focus on applied research (6.2), advanced technology development (6.3), and other high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) efforts.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assists the Chief Engineer to manage and oversee all AFRL/RX Acquisition Programs to include setting initial baselines, approving technical approaches, and establishing all key Systems Engineering metrics.
- Identify and recommend measures to improve overall directorate application of systems engineering principles and quality of program management.
- Develop, modify, and/or implement policies/procedures/processes to enable programs and other technical efforts to efficiently and effectively employ SEPM principles in a manner compliant with all appropriate guidance and instruction.
- Lead directorate efforts to provide periodic SEPM-related education and training opportunities to the directorate.
- Serve as directorate Alternate Lead Test Officer IAW AFRLI 61-103 and alternate lead associated directorate-level Technical.
- Co-lead, with the RX Assistant Chief Scientist, the Directorate Technology Council (DTC) process including the review of new programs and other DTC activities.
- Work with RX division technical directors, branch chiefs, and research leaders, the RX Assistant to the Chief Scientist, and with representatives from HQ AFRL, AFRL/EN, other AFRL directorates, Major Commands, OSD Offices, SAF/AQR, other government agencies, and industry to accomplish establish partnerships and achieve common goals.
- Represent Chief Engineer as required, at meetings within and outside of the directorate.
- Receives assistance and provides day-to-day oversight for the Systems Engineering Contract Support function.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Secret designation. Candidate must have or be able to obtain a security clearance.
- Possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree, in a relevant technical field, from an accredited (or ABET accredited for engineering) academic institution
- Must have met requirements for Level 2 (Practitioner) APDP certification in Engineering & Technical Management, or be capable of meeting the requirements within 2 years
