Form of workSUMMARY: The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead is seeking an energetic journalist to assist in leading a team of Business and Features reporters and freelancers. We’re looking for someone who will be active and visible in the metro community in order to help the team find stories that inform and entertain our readers. The journalist will be expected to edit and occasionally write business, arts and entertainment stories. Because we are a digital-first newsroom, we are looking for someone with a strong interest and experience in digital storytelling. Experience in podcasting is a plus.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guide a team of five Business and Features reporters and a number of freelance writers
- Become active and visible in the Business and arts and entertainment communities
- Ability to write spot and enterprise stories as needed
- Prep and edit freelance content
- Select and prep opinion page content
- Prioritize stories to be featured on InForum.com and highlighted on digital platforms.
- Communicate with page designers to facilitate strong print and e-paper products.
- Encourage consistent use of alternative content forms for all digital publishing platforms.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field preferred.
- Five years of experience in a newsroom setting or equivalent field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of human resource/supervisory rules and policies.
- Ability to speak and write clear, clean and concise sentences in a fast-paced environment.
- Editing, basic journalism and AP style experience preferred.
- Attention to detail and a high level of customer service skills are required.
- Knowledge of computers and various software programs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
- Interpret a variety of instructions either written or oral.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear, close vision and distance vision.
- Required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or reach with hands and arms; climb or balance.
- Lift and or move up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to work 4-5 weekends a year
- Works in close proximity to others.
