Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Media Relations (Football) will lead all communications and Media Relations for Boise State football, its student-athletes, coaches and staff, and work closely with other members of the department's strategic communications office to promote and protect the institution and those who represent Boise State.
Level Scope:
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.
Essential Functions:
  • Oversee and manage the publication of information provided to local, regional, and national media regarding Boise State football and other assigned sports.
  • Primary contact for media outlets for assigned sports programs, including football.
  • Oversee the process of media requests and interviews for football.
  • Serve as the Media Relations liaison to the football head coach.
  • Prepare student-athletes, coaches, and staff for media opportunities.
  • Maintain the department's quarterly and annual reports.
  • Assist in media coordination efforts for conferences and national sporting events hosted by Boise State.
  • Write, coordinate, and distribute press releases and statistics as necessary.
  • Administer adherence to conference and department initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
  • Experience with oversight and management of personnel.
  • Experience and understanding of media operations and deadlines, with a background in journalism/public relations.
  • Basic computer knowledge and competency.
  • Understanding and experience regarding the internal workings of website design.
  • This position must have excellent communication skills to work as a high-level customer service representative for event patrons.
  • Administration of large-scale highly visible game management from a Media Relations standpoint.
  • Working knowledge and experience administering a championship-level athletic event.
  • Flexibility to handle irregular hours and short-notice tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years experience or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience working directly with a Division I, FBS football program, including travel to away contests.
  • Experience providing media training to student-athletes, coaches and staff.
  • Experience in the use and operation of InDesign (or comparable publishing program), Photoshop, Word, web updating programs and statistical programs (i.e. STATCREW, Genius, etc.).
Salary and Benefits:
Annual salary starting at $70,000.
