Assistant /Associate Professor in Medical Speech-Language Pathology

Position: The Department ofSpeech and Hearing Science (http://shs.illinois.edu) invitesapplications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank ofassistant or Associate Professor in Medical speech-language pathology. Areas ofspecialization may include voice disorders, dysphagia, motor speech disorders,aphasia, and cognitive-communication disorders due to acquired brain injury, inthe pediatric or adult population. The position offers numerous opportunitiesto engage in basic, clinical, and translational research throughinterdisciplinary programs and institutes. The position is available August 16,2024.
MinimumQualifications:
Candidatesat the assistant professor rank must (i) hold a doctorate in CommunicationSciences and Disorders or a related field by the start date, and (ii) have the potentialto develop a funded research program. Qualified candidates at the associateprofessor rank must have a record of external funding, demonstrated excellencein teaching and mentoring, and the potential to collaborate with facultythrough existing campus initiatives.
PreferredQualification:Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.
Responsibilities: Successfulapplicants will: conduct and publish research; seek external funding to supportresearch activities; mentor students; teach undergraduate and graduate coursesin communication sciences and disorders; engage in professional and publicengagement activities; and contribute to the missionsof the department, college, and university.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications andexperience.
AcademicEnvironment: Speechand Hearing Science is a highly collegial and collaborative department,situated in the College of Applied Health Sciences on the main campus of theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and includes: (a) the recentlyrenovated Speech and Hearing Science Building that houses academic, research,and collaborative spaces; (b) the Audiology & Speech-Language PathologyClinic; and (c) the Collaboration Lab that houses clinical faculty offices, aclassroom, multiple study spaces for clinical graduate students, and privatespaces for telepractice. Our department offers an undergraduate degree andthree graduate degrees-M.A., Au.D., and Ph.D. Its mission is to engage inresearch, education, and outreach activities that enhance communication acrossthe lifespan, integrating research and clinical applications from thebiological, behavioral, and social sciences. Faculty are also supportedby the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute which organizes campusefforts to address health and wellness challenges and provides support forresearch infrastructure.
