Assembly Technician (Temporary, 3-Month Role)

The Role

This is a temporary, three-month position. 

The Assembly Technician assembles components, installs cabling, and assembles the autonomous vehicle kit onto the Outrider's autonomous yard trucks.  The role also participates in design reviews and problem resolution supporting continuous improvement.  

The Assembly Technicians are part of a lean team, targeting on-time delivery, making each assembly more efficient and ensuring our end customer receives the best possible product and service.

This role reports to the Head of Assembly Operations and is crucial to the successful build and deployment of the Outrider System. Overall, this position requires a detailed-oriented, energetic individual who has an excellent background in assembly operations of automotive, aerospace, or similarly complex hardware products and thrives in a rapidly changing, "roll-up-your-sleeves" environment. 

Responsibilities

• Build assemblies and finished products
• Perform tool / equipment setup, operation, and minor preventative maintenance tasks
• Assemble, disassemble, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, electronic systems following work instructions, standards and specifications
• Meet all safety and quality standards while carrying out tasks
• Execute tasks efficiently and within cycle time expectations
• Log work and issues in a timely manner in Outrider specified computer applications
• Maintain quality standards by inspecting and testing to verify conformance with specifications
• Perform receiving and in-process inspections completing appropriate checklists 
• Run manual / automated tests on assemblies and finished truck where available
• Troubleshoot and repair assemblies and finished truck as needed
• Log test results, issues and repairs in a timely manner in Outrider specified computer applications
• Identify any problems encountered while operating equipment, assembling or testing 
• Participate in continuous improvement through problem resolution 
• Collaborate with engineers in design reviews
• Follow all safety rules and personal protective equipment requirements
• Cable assembly and repair including wire cutting, stripping, crimping and taping
• Drive yard trucks to assemble, charge and load for shipping  
• Other tasks as assigned to aid other teams as needed

Required Qualifications

• A minimum 4 years relevant experience in electrical / mechanical assembly
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb step ladders and work at 10 feet high
• Ability to work in tight spots  (under vehicle, under cab, in cab)
• Read CAD / Illustrated electromechanical drawings 
• Creative problem solver who thrives when presented with a challenge
• Able to occasionally travel domestically
• General use of mechanical tools is required
• Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Familiar with vehicle subsystems (braking systems, steering, pneumatics, hydraulics and cabling)
• Able to diagnose vehicle mechanical issues
• Strong experience with technician support of electronic control systems, high voltage battery systems and low voltage systems

Ideal Qualifications

• Autonomous robotics assembly and/or vehicle assembly
• Electric Powertrain/Electric vehicle knowledge and experience
• Experience creating and updating CAD/Illustrated electromechanical drawings 
• Military vehicle/aircraft maintenance experience is highly desirable
