- Receives drawings, sketches, instructions, etc. from the Group Leader for assembling all types of units.
- Checks drawings, sketches, and related information for assembly requirements. Determines appropriate work methods and equipment to be used.
- Move subassembly parts from storage area to assembly area using material handling equipment. Receives motors, bearings, etc. from the Shipper/Receiver.
- Checks items to be assembled for dimensions, hole locations, etc. and for general completeness of fabricating operations.
- Assembles, fits, and adjusts component parts to meet the operating requirements of the product, using hand and power tools.
- Installs motors and drive units making all necessary electrical connections.
- Utilizes the overhead crane and jib hoist in handling and positioning materials.
- Prepares and installs various identifying tags.
- Starts up unit and tests for proper operation. Make any appropriate adjustments to correct operational problems.
- Notifies Group Leader of any difficulties that require changes in parts, defective materials, or inability to assemble.
- Uses burning torch and welding unit for simple burning and assembly welding.
- Directs and/or instructs Assembler II, Trainees, Laborers, etc., as assigned.
- Maintains all equipment and area in a clean and orderly manner.
- Performs wheel balancing in assembly area using portable balancing equipment, as necessary.
- Follows all safety regulations and requirements in performing various operations.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- A combination of training and strong manufacturing experience
- Must take the initiative and be able to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the team.
- Requires the ability to read and interpret complicated drawings and sketches in determining the appropriate assembly procedures.
- Requires the physical and mental ability, as well as the manual dexterity, to assemble various types of subassemblies, assemblies and finished products.
- Requires the physical ability and manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools and test equipment.
- Requires the ability to climb on ladders, scaffolds, tables, etc. in performing assembly duties and in handling material.
- Requires the ability to communicate orally or by written or printed word with supervisors and coworkers.
- Performs duties in a congested area where attention is required to ensure the safety of the incumbent and of other employees in that area.
