Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics at the University of Alabama seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor working at the intersection of algebra, combinatorics and topology beginning on August 16, 2024.


Detailed Position Information
The successful candidate should be familiar with computing quiver representations from a linear algebra perspective and should have a specialization in finding the partially ordered set structure of the cells on quiver Grassmannians. Applicants should also be familiar with geometric topology and matroid theory. In addition to any other applicable evidence, the applicant will document their area of expertise by supplying relevant publications or preprints. A successful applicant should have branched into areas different from their Ph.D. dissertation and have developed collaboration with people other than their dissertation advisor. The successful candidate’s interests should align with those of other members of the algebra/topology mathematics group in the department and should be prepared to teach courses in group theory, ring theory, and general and algebraic topology.
The University of Alabama is a student-centered R1 research university. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong research program and to pursue external funding and should be committed to providing a strong education to undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the candidate should be committed to supervising undergraduate research and graduate dissertations. A Ph. D. in mathematics is required. A successful applicant must have previous postdoctoral experience and should have some experience of applying for AMS/NSF/Simons grants either as a graduate student or postdoc. To supplement our increasingly diverse graduate and undergraduate programs, some international experience is preferred as is evidence of broadening student research representation in STEM fields. Familiarity with alternative teaching formats is preferred. Some evidence of conference organization is desirable. Additionally, evidence of mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students should be presented; the candidate should be committed to supervising undergraduate research and graduate dissertations.


Minimum Qualifications
A Ph. D. in mathematics is required. A successful applicant must have previous postdoctoral experience.


Preferred Qualifications
Some experience of applying for AMS/NSF/Simons grants either as a graduate student or postdoc is preferred.
