POSITION:Artistic Assistant

CLASSIFICATION:Seasonal

STATUS:Non-exempt

REPORTS TO:Artistic Associate

SUPERVISES:N/A

COMPENSATION:$20/hr

LOCATION:Position may work remotely, depending on start date. Position requires relocating to Williamstown, MA from June - August, during which housing is provided.

HIRING TIMELINE: Applications to be accepted until the position is filled with priority application deadline of March 15, 2024. Application review and interviews to be conducted in March with an anticipated start date in June and an end date of August 17.

Job Summary

The Williamstown Theatre Festival seeks candidates who are interested in theater for the position of Artistic Assistant. The Artistic Assistant reports to the Artistic Associate and works closely with them and the Special Project Associate, as well as the rest of the artistic and producing teams. The Artistic Assistant provides administrative support for projects including Fridays@3, the Weissberger Prize adjudication, residencies, workshops and other projects as designated by the Artistic Associate. It may be that the candidate is interested in professional theater management, dramaturg, literary management or producing.

Primary Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Provide administrative support to the Artistic Office, as requested.
  • Coordination and execution of Artist and Donor Hospitality events in the summer, in close collaboration with Development Office
  • Assists the Artistic team with the Fridays@3 new work reading series, four 29-hour readings culminating in public presentations at the Clark Museum
  • Supports all activities related to the summer phase of Weissberger Prize adjudication. This includes tracking nominated scripts and providing coverage on dozens of scripts.
  • Supports workshops and residencies (1-2 weeks in length) for generative artists.
  • Assists with Sunday Lawn Talks, pre-performance small panel talks featuring experts whose work is thematically related to work in the WTF season. May moderate some or all Lawn Talks.
  • Supports post-show talkbacks featuring actors or creative team members or WTF staff. May moderate some or all talkbacks.
  • Embrace the Festival’s commitment to EDIA and Anti-racism by actively participating in and encouraging behaviors among staff members that exemplify respect; interrupting microaggressions and other behaviors that hinder our EDIA and Anti-racism efforts; engaging in the diversification of the workforce; and demonstrating a degree of cultural competency that encourages healthy relationships with all company members.

  • Experience working in a literary office writing script coverage
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience with heavy email communication
  • Experience managing a team
  • Public speaking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Experience interacting with artists in a close capacity
  • Familiarity with new work development
