The role you'll contribute:

The Art Therapist applies knowledge and skill to promote art therapy programming that enhances the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of pediatric patients. This position provides pediatric patients developmentally appropriate creative art therapy interventions to reduce stress, express feelings, make choices, and promote socialization. Art therapy interventions also extend to meet the needs of the family of pediatric patients. The Art Therapist actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

    Provides art therapy interventions that are goal-oriented and patient/family focused. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and modifies interventions based on outcomes as needed.

     Implements creative art therapy services to help meet the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of children, adolescents, and families.

     Adheres to the American Art Therapy Association scope of practice, competencies and applies the art therapy process in pediatric sessions.

     Plans and implements developmentally appropriate therapeutic individual and group activities while effectively communicating and assisting pediatric patients and families in achieving specific goals and objectives.

     Plans, organizes, and maintains supplies for therapeutic activities.

     Interfaces with unit staff in developing and providing therapeutic programming on inpatient units.

     Models value-based behaviors, self-reflection, critical thinking skills, and emotional intelligence to support personal, departmental, and organizational growth/changes.

     Contributes to positive morale of child life department and redirects negative behaviors and conversations.

     Orients, trains, and supervises art therapy volunteers and special events/visitors.

     Demonstrates professional behaviors including: effective time management skills, ability to accept and make positive changes to feedback, adherence to on-stage and off-stage behaviors.

     Communicates effectively with child life staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team contributing to a positive work environment via trust, respect, and cooperation.

     Documents patient sessions in EPIC.

     Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or hospital

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

    Previous experience working with children 0-18 years of age.

    Strong organizational skills.

    Ability to perform clinical/therapeutic assessments and supervision for groups and/or individuals.

    Proficiency in visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms) 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 Master's degree in Art Therapy

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    Experience as an Art Therapist in a pediatric medical setting.

 

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

 ATR (Registered Art Therapist); ATR-BC (Board-Certified Art Therapist); ATCS (Certified Supervisor) issued by the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc.
