GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Citywide Art Teacher provides high quality arts programming at the JCCSF’s partner afterschool sites. This program provides essential arts education to elementary students at high-needs schools within SFUSD. These programs serve the city’s diverse population and are provided to participants free of charge. The program year is from mid-August to early June. Employment options over summer break are available but not guaranteed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach multiple weekly arts programs at partner SFUSD elementary afterschool sites.
- Design social justice-informed visual arts curriculum units for each school term.
- Transport materials between program sites and to and from the JCCSF.
- Work with the Youth Programs Manager and other Citywide staff on planning, scheduling, and grant reporting.
- Collaborate with partner afterschool program staff on scheduling, site access, attendance, and other joint concerns.
- Create a safe, joyful, and stimulating atmosphere for students.
- Display developmentally appropriate child-adult interactions.
- Monitor personal hygiene, health, and psychological/emotional well-being of children.
- Participate in regular staff training and meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
- At least two years’ experience working with school-age children.
- Knowledge of and ability to teach elementary-age children about visual art.
- Ability to work independently offsite with minimal supervision.
- Associate degree or higher, or equivalent experience. Arts, education, child development, or ECE degree or coursework preferred.
- Experience working within a framework of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and ability to incorporate these principles into programs.
- Ability to pass a background check for working with children.
- Must have reliable means of transportation.
- Proficiency in languages other than English—such as Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese—is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works primarily offsite at partner afterschool programs at SFUSD school sites, with some hours worked from home and at the JCCSF’s main building. Work takes place at multiple offsite locations and takes place under a variety of conditions. This position requires travel between school sites. Eligible travel expenses will be reimbursed. Materials must be transported between locations within school sites. This position regularly works with elementary aged children (ages 5-12). Programming is primarily conducted in English, with some instructors providing bilingual programming at some sites.

HOURS/SCHEDULE
26 hours/week, Regular schedule is Monday-Friday from mid-August-early June; approximate hours are 1:00-6:00 PM. Summer hours may vary. Additional hours may be required for special events.
