Area Safety Compliance Manager

Job Summary:

The position of Area Safety Compliance Manager is exempt from the overtime provi­sions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and shall not be entitled to overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 in any one work week.

The Area Safety Compliance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of our employees, customers, and the public. Your primary responsibility will be to lead and implement safety programs, policies, and initiatives across multiple distribution centers in the area, promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory standards.

Essential Job Functions:

• Safety Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive safety strategy for the area, fostering a safety-first culture at all levels of the organization. Serve as a safety advocate and role model for all employees.
• Compliance and Regulatory Oversight: Stay up to date with local, state, and federal safety regulations pertaining to food distribution operations. Ensure all distribution centers are fully compliant with relevant safety standards and requirements.
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and safety issues within distribution centers. Implement proactive measures to mitigate risks and improve overall safety performance.
• Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and managers. Provide guidance and resources to enhance safety awareness and knowledge throughout the organization.
• Incident Investigation and Reporting: Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses. Analyze root causes and develop action plans to prevent future occurrences. Accurately document and report safety incidents to the appropriate authorities.
• Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections at distribution centers to ensure adherence to safety protocols, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
• Emergency Response Planning: Collaborate with site managers to develop and implement effective emergency response plans, ensuring employees are prepared to respond to potential emergencies.
• Performance Tracking and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor safety performance across the area. Prepare and present regular safety reports to management.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety processes, procedures, and equipment within the distribution centers.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field and/or 5 years of related experience.
• Advanced certifications in safety management are desirable.
• Proven experience as a Safety Manager, preferably in the food distribution or logistics industry.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, codes, and standards applicable to food distribution operations.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively engage employees and stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capability to analyze data to make informed decisions.
• Ability to travel to various distribution centers within the area as needed.
