Job description

The Area Safety and Loss Prevention Specialist is a results-oriented leader. Responsible for supporting the organization’s health, safety, and Loss Prevention programs in stores, warehouses, schools, offices, and contract sites. Ensures that shrink and safety reduction is achieved through audits, action plans, training, store visits, and investigations. Ensures all stores are actively engaging their Shrinkage Action Plans and improving compliance in all areas. Responsible for interpreting, guiding, and enforcing policies and procedures to minimize environmental liability, financial and operational impact. This position is responsible and will be held accountable for behaving in accordance with divisional and organizational RISE values and expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists with the implementation and monitoring of the corporate wide Safety and Loss Prevention program including but not limited to:

a. Safety training both in new hire orientation and on site
b. Tracking of Safety and Loss Prevention training
c. Site inspections and audits
d. Safety drills

 

2. Supporting the Workers Compensation program including but not limited to:

a. Investigation of incidents
b. Interaction with claimants to gather information and limit exposure

 

3. Ensures compliance with CARF requirements in Health, Safety and Accessibility, including but not limited to:

a. Inspections and safety drill tracking
b. Critical incident training and tracking
c. Safety training tracking
d. First aid kit availability and stocking
e. ADA compliance
f. Requests for accommodations

 

4. Test functionality of Safety and Loss Prevention equipment, including but not limited to:

a. CCTV systems
b. Keys and locks
c. Emergency exits

 

5. Coordinate with the Maintenance department and outside vendors to preserve the integrity of the site’s overall physical infrastructure.

 

6. Partners with local law enforcement and prepare case files for criminal prosecution.

 

7. Testify in court proceedings and labor related hearings resulting from Safety and Loss Prevention related investigations.

 

8. Prepare reports on Safety and Loss Prevention related investigations.

 

9. Conduct Reasonable Suspicion interviews and investigations.

 

10. Conduct Powered Equipment Training.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Produces reports and/or data in various formats.
  2. Extensive travel throughout the DC metropolitan area (DC, MD, and VA)
  3. Assist Director of Safety and Loss Prevention with federal, state, and local government environmental regulatory agency filings and postings are completed with regard to OSHA and the OSHA 300 logs.
  4. Assists with the development and maintenance of safety metrics that identify trends and track actions.
  5. Assists with initial placement of CCTV equipment and performs primary troubleshooting in lieu of contacting vendor(s).
  6. Maintain a basic level knowledge of status of fire systems employed throughout the organization to coordinate with responsible parties for troubleshooting and inspections.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

 

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

 

1. Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience, and minimum of 3-5 years safety, asset protection/Loss Prevention (multi store and multi enterprise experience in a retail facility, including proficiency in both internal and external case investigations.)

2. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.


3. Possess strong influencing skills and is comfortable working in a fast-paced ambiguous environment.


4. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities


5. Ability to work independently. Self-directed and self-motivated.


6. Working knowledge of key physical security systems, such as alarms, etc.


7. Proficient knowledge of computer programs (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


8. Highly analytical with the ability to interpret findings.


9. Interview and interrogation certification (Wicklander-Zulawski or comparable certification).


10. Valid drivers’ license and access to reliable transportation, travel 50 – 75%.

 

11. Knowledge and experience in Workers Compensation, OSHA, ADA regulations and safety training.

 

12. High level of organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work effectively on multiple tasks simultaneously.

 

13. Excellent attention to detail.

 

14. Excellent customer service and employee relations skills and the ability to work with staff of all levels.

 

15. Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.

 

16. Discretion and confidentiality.

 

17. Ability to perform basic mathematical equations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Professional certification (i.e. National Association of Safety Professionals, CSP-Certified Safety Professional).

 

2. 5 years’ experience in administering safety programs.

 

3. OSHA certification.

 

4. First Aid/CPR certification.

 

5. Spanish language or ASL proficiency.
