Position Summary
The Area Manager, Facilities, is responsible for the success of multiple STERIS facilities spread over a geographic region. This individual provides leadership, mentorship, and manages site-based Facilities' teams. This includes developing facilities' department business, reliability, contingency, health, safety, and environmental, and asset management plans and providing guidance and direction for the successful implementation and sustainment of those plans. This individual will work directly with Director, Construction & Facilities to develop standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI) that align with internal quality management systems and external regulatory requirements.
This position requires extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements as they relate to healthcare, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing facilities management, safety, and plant maintenance. This individual provides a high degree of customer service, has superior communication skills, and the ability to work independently and travel between locations while producing and reporting results with a sense of urgency. A high degree of integrity is required along with extensive knowledge of physical plant operations and maintenance (O&M) and an understanding of budgetary standards related to projects, repairs, etc. Experience overseeing GMP and FDA regulated facilities with clean rooms and Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or equivalent certification a plus.
What you will do

  • Oversees/directs Facilities' team activities and supports 24/7 ISO 13485/FDA 820 regulated operations across a geographic region. Responds to emergency facilities calls as needed and must be available for contact on troubleshooting or issues that local Facilities' staff cannot resolve.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance programs in accordance with best practices and STERIS quality management system requirements. Author, review, and maintain SOPs and WIs to sustain practices.
  • Standardize development, implementation, maintenance, and refinement of computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for facility assets. Ensure compliance with SOPs and WIs across all assigned facilities departments. Plan, schedule, organize, and direct the work of team members and external vendors regarding the O&M of assigned facilities while minimizing downtime to operations.
  • Negotiate with vendors and contractors to seek cost savings. Oversee and manage projects delivered by external vendors at STERIS locations to ensure on-time, on-budget completion.
  • Monitor, audit, and enforce facility O&M execution, and safe work practices, and institute and audit training drills across the network. Act as subject matter expert for internal and external audits.
  • Manage multiple facility O&M costs within allocated P&L with both the Director of Construction & Facilities and on-site senior leadership. Advise the Director of Construction & Facilities of deviations from budget and develop plans to rectify.
  • Stand up new facilities; includes design review, inspection of construction work, hiring facilities staff, authoring SOPs and WIs, and preparing facilities for DNV Sterile Processing Program Certification, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 and FDA 820 registration.
  • Maintain conformance with company policies and procedures and manage performance processes for the facility staff.
    • Hire and train personnel to perform duties safely and efficiently consistent with corporate guidelines and OSHA regulations.
    • Appraise employee performance and offer recommendations for wage review and/or change in employee status.
    • Conduct and document weekly staff operation and safety meetings.
    • Increase the efficiency of staff services by providing new and innovative ways to provide more effective facility services.
  • Oversee records retention program and ensure compliance with STERIS policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure business success.

What you will need to be successful
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years; Engineering, Facility Management, or Construction Management or 9+ years with an Associate's degree; industrial maintenance, facility management in a similar industry, or applicable Military Specialty
  • 5+ years supporting GMP-regulated, clean room, or FDA-registered facilities
  • 5+ years of experience in all phases of plant and equipment maintenance.
  • 5+ Area Manager must possess an extremely high degree of accuracy and experience with electrical systems, mechanical systems, maintenance program strategy, and contractor supervision.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience, including writing employee evaluations, counseling, training, and mentoring, and determining employment status
  • History of leading safe work operations and managing budgets
  • Skilled project manager
  • Remain calm and collected during high-intensity situations
  • Adept at communicating clearly in both written and oral form with all levels of management.
  • Ability to develop plan and execute operations to meet defined strategy
  • Demonstrated experience working with industrial plant equipment
  • Computer skills: highly proficient in MS Office products and CMMS experience (eMaint preferred)
  • Experience writing SOPs and WIs
  • Ability to manage a dispersed team independently
  • Skilled at evaluating and negotiating bids/quotes for projects
  • Well versed at reading, reviewing, and recommending changes to blueprints

Remote. Must be based in the Eastern Zone near a major airport. Travel 50+%.

Pay range for this opportunity is ((90,250.00)) - ((121,485.00)).This position is eligible for bonus participation.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
Employees (and their families) may enroll in our company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, health savings account, voluntary benefits, supplemental life/AD&D plans and the company's 401k plan. Employees are covered by an employee assistance program (also available to household members) and long-term disability. Full-Time Employees are also eligible for short-term disability. Full-time Employees will also receive Paid Time Off (PTO) based on years of service and paid Holidays. Part-time employees working 20 or more hours receive a pro-ration of the full-time PTO allocation and paid Holidays based on their standard hourly work week. Full-Time employees are eligible for four weeks of paid parental leave. Part-time employees also receive paid parental leave, pro-rated based on their standard hourly work week.
