About Tippet Rise
Tippet Rise Art Center is located in Fishtail, Montana, against the backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains, roughly midway between Billings and Bozeman and north of Yellowstone National Park. Set on a 12,500-acre working sheep and cattle ranch, Tippet Rise celebrates the union of music, art, architecture, and landscape. The art center exhibits large-scale, outdoor sculptures by some of the world’s foremost artists and architects, accessible via 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, or by the art center’s Sculpture Van Tours. Tippet Rise also presents an annual summer concert season—indoors and out—featuring internally acclaimed chamber musicians and soloists.

Opportunity Overview
Tippet Rise Art Center is looking for an individual with experience in and a passion for organizing and preserving institutional assets and history. This unique organization and job opportunity will combine working in classical music media, site-specific outdoor sculpture and smaller artworks and objects, a mission-driven book library, and working with a dynamic and energetic team set in immediate proximity of nature and outdoor activities. The Archivist & Librarian will be responsible for creating and implementing an archives and collections management strategy for various types of assets including records, audio recordings, video, photos, art and artifacts, and books. Position Summary
The Archivist & Librarian will be responsible for creating and implementing an archives and collections management strategy for various types of assets including records, audio recordings, video, photos, art and artifacts, and books. The Archivist will develop policies and conventions for the archives based on industry best practices as well as create a database and finding aids. The employee will collaborate with team members from across the organization as well as artists, poets, or guests in residence to source materials from the archives and libraries as well as fulfill requests for assets both internally and with external partners. The Archivist Librarian will be a key team player assisting with the efficiency of organizational information and materials as well as leading the preservation of institutional assets and history.

Duties and Responsibilities

Media:
  • Setup and maintain media file management on local severs and cloud.
  • Ingest and process video, audio, and photo media.
  • Name and tag files with proper metadata.
  • Work through back dated media to modernize archive with updated standards.
  • Monitor and maintain media archive database for video, audio, and photo data.
  • Monitor and maintain Archive storage infrastructure and devices.
  • Fulfill requests for audio, video, or photo assets both internally and externally.
Records, Art and Artifacts:
  • Work with the Trustees and Directors to create a records and archives collection management strategy for physical, digitized, and born digital material.
  • Draft clear archives policies and practices and workflows and help train and educate staff in utilizing them.
  • Collaborate with staff organization-wide to achieve standardized preservation and access to born digital, digitized, and physical archival material.
  • Establish Tippet Rise archives for historical or legacy records, files, media, art and artifacts, and additional information deemed relevant.
o Establish a repository for physical records, artifacts, and ephemera.
o Establish a digital repository for archivable born digital and digitized records.
  • Create and maintain art and artifacts summary database.
  • Create dedicated physical and digital artists files.
  • Identify, process, and catalogue new and backlog of the organizations archival documentation in conventional and digital formats, including the accessioning and de-accessioning of archival materials.
  • Support internal and external access to Tippet Rise Archives as needed for staff, researchers, artists, musicians, and outside collaborators.
  • Manage physical security and preservation of the Archives.
  • Revise policies, procedures, and standards as needed in order to sustain the Archives.
  • Manage the preservation and administration of archival records at all levels across organization and in any form, including the collection of artistic, administrative, legal, and fiscal documents, not currently in use.
  • Facilitate ongoing preparation and updating of inventories, guides, and other retrieval aids in accordance with accepted archival standards.
Library:
  • Work with Directors to create library policies and practices that facilitate the user experience and align with goals and operations.
  • Update and maintain library catalogues for multiple locations.
  • Determine organization and help shelve books in new library.
  • Re-shelving books as needed.
  • Work with Trustees and Directors to procure new books and place in libraries.
  • Assist library users as needed.
  • Distribution of books to other libraries, institutions, and guests as needed.
Other Duties:
  • Support and help with artist residencies at Tippet Rise.
  • Work with Tippet Rise’s sister organization, The Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation, on collaborative projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree in library sciences
  • Three years of experience working in related fields such as archives, library, media
  • Mac and Windows OS Proficiency required
  • Current valid driver’s license and right to work documents required
  • Knowledge of classical music is preferred
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premier, Photoshop, Lightroom, Davinci Resolve, Avid Protools would be advantageous
  • Basic networking proficiency would be advantageous
  • Ability to organize, plan ahead, and manage workload.
  • Team player and a self-starter, able to work independently without constant supervision and in a team environment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Works alone and in group setting.
  • Frequently uses computer.
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing.
  • Frequently needs to walk on all types of terrain, up and down stairs.
  • Bending, stooping, lifting objects overhead.
  • Using step stool or small ladder for high shelves

Employment Details
Terms: Full-Time Regular Postition

Dates/Schedule: Typically Monday through Friday, may require some flexibility at times
