Architecture Summer Internship 2024 - Kansas City

Hufft is a design and fabrication studio that creates meaningful spaces and objects. Our authentic approach, inspired by people and places, integrates designers and builders into one holistic process.

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Architectural Intern to join our Architecture and Fabrication studio for the summer of 2024. As a Summer Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our design and fabrication team members in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.

As an intern at Hufft, you will be exposed to projects at multiple scales across building types. In addition to being involved in exciting active and ongoing projects, interns will collaborate with each other, and other team members on a unique summer-long project to design and fabricate a project of their choosing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the creation of 3D models and renderings for projects at various scales.
• Perform assignments that assist project designers in preparing for presentations and drawing submittals. 
• Attend design meetings in all project design phases.
• Visit job sites for site observation and generating field reports
• Build models utilizing 3D printing, laser cutting, and handmade processes.
• Materials research
• Participate in design team meetings and presentations, offering fresh perspectives and creative ideas

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Basic understanding of architectural design and building
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge in Revit, SketchUp, and the Adobe Suite
• Extra Credit will be given for experience with: Parametric design, component-based design, optimization, and augmented and virtual reality.
• The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to incorporate fabrication in the design process and thrive in our collaborative, cross-disciplinary practice.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

• Successful completion of 3rd year of architecture program by May of 2024, with desire to complete the program following the internship
• A strong portfolio demonstrating abilities in conceptual thinking with an emphasis on creative design and exploration
