Architectural Project Designer

ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT DESIGNER

SpaceX is preparing to launch at an incredible launch tempo out of multiple launch complexes and process more payloads than ever. Existing and future SpaceX facilities are dynamic, adapting to changing requirements. This role is responsible for driving the planning and design collaboration of modifications to SpaceX existing facilities at the Cape. Due to the collaborative nature of this environment, the candidate must also have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other team members, departments, and outside vendors. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate in the design of multiple concurrent projects that are part of a larger program of work, each in different phases and with different A/E consultant teams and groups of stakeholders
• Work in collaboration with project stakeholders to develop project scope
• Identify requirements and critical items for the operation and risks
• Create and execute design solutions for problems of form, usability and physical ergonomics as required to be able to communicate project requirements and options to stakeholders
• Coordinate the work of multiple disciplines involved in the design of each of the project scopes
• Review and manage project request tickets, create work orders when needed and manage to completion
• Participate in the design process, including coordinating technical review of all discipline work, scheduling design reviews with all project stakeholders, and measuring and reporting on design progress to project management team
• Participate in the design and construction bidding process, including attendance at pre-bid meetings and walks, processing of pre-bid RFI's, review of Vendor proposals and award of project
• Develop and maintain updated Revit models for each of the SpaceX assets at the Cape
• Maintain the record databases (cartography) and drawings files for each facility asset accurate to existing renovated conditions
• Assist project team in CAD / BIM project setup and collaboration through the project. Set-up project templates, workspaces, libraries, design options, hyperlinking and plots
• Space planning for office assignments, furniture/ decor selection, management and tracking
• Create conceptual/architectural renderings 
• Coordinate facilities projects to ensure vendors meet SpaceX, Air Force, and NASA standards while delivering promised services, materials, and craftsmanship
• Assist in improving the facilities department efficiency by developing automations and/or implementing novel construction techniques for quick delivery

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in design, architecture, or other technical discipline
• 3+ years of experience with a digital modeling platform (Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, etc.) and Adobe Creative Suite
• 3+ years of professional experience in facilities design, renovation, or construction

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• 5+ years of working knowledge of digital modeling platform and management tools (Navisworks, BIM 360, Autodesk Force and/or ReCap)
• 1+ years' experience in BlueBeam Revu / Extreme software and collaboration management in these tools
• Skilled in reading, interpreting and creating engineering drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge and understanding of project management best practices.
• Excellent document management and organizational skills
• Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
• Familiarity with industry standards & codes
• Experience with importing and exporting metadata from models into lifecycle management tools
• Ability to create / modify custom applications
• Self-starter and possess the drive to pursue continued education on technologies utilized in the company

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
• Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction
• Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (15 to 35 lbs.)
• Occasional travel may be required based on specific project tasks

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range: 

Level I: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00/per year

Level II: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
