Schnackel Engineers, Inc. is a privately owned mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and information technology (MEP/FP/IT) consulting engineering company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska with several strategic regional offices across the United States. Our work centers on the production of construction documents, primarily in the commercial and institutional sectors of the Architectural Engineering industry. Projects include retail, restaurant, office, mixed use, warehouse, multi-family residential, educational, and healthcare facilities throughout the United States.

We are growing and have an opening for an Electrical Engineer to join our team. The position is a full-time (salary) position and is located in the office.

You will work on a team consisting of a project manager, an electrical designer, a mechanical (HVAC) engineer, and mechanical (HVAC) designer, and a plumbing designer.

Responsibilities:

  • Becoming familiar with the codes that are applicable to the project.
  • Using AutoCAD and other software to create electrical construction document packages which include plans including electrical distribution equipment, devices (receptacles, etc.), equipment connections, luminaires, controls, fire alarm initiating devices and notification appliances, all associated circuitry, appropriate schedules and details, one line / riser diagrams, and construction specifications.
  • Performing all required calculations to support design decisions, including load calculations, short-circuit calculations, and photometric calculations.
  • Coordinating with local utility companies to provide the required utility services to the project.
  • Coordinating with equipment vendors and manufacturer’s representatives for selection and specification of appropriate equipment.
  • Coordinating with the client, the MEP/FP/IT design team, and other consultants to ensure the design is consistent with the client’s vision, to identify and resolve areas of conflict, to ensure a fully coordinated interdisciplinary design, and to ensure the design schedule is maintained.
  • Participate in meetings and conference calls when deemed necessary.
  • Provide construction administration (CA) services, including answering requests for information (RFIs).
  • Provide mentoring and guidance for junior colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • In possession of Professional Engineer (PE) credentials in Electrical Engineering.
  • ABET-accredited degree in Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis or Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical theory (voltage, current, resistance/impedance, power equations, etc.).
  • Five or more years of electrical design experience with an MEP/FP engineering consultant.
  • Five or more years of AutoCAD experience.
  • Proficient with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm & Signaling Code).
  • Passionate about expanding educational background of electrical design principles.
  • Exceptional communication and organization skills.
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize tasks and multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently upon receiving necessary direction and information.
  • Thrive in fast-paced environments with desire to work efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing projects and familiarity with related drawing, permitting, and regulatory requirements.
  • In possession of or desire to obtain RCDD credential.
  • One or more year(s) of Revit experience.
