EWI has provided high end research and development services to commercial and government clients for over 35 years as a not-for-profit contract research laboratory with a focus on joining and related technologies.  EWI’s Arc Welding and Directed Energy Deposition Processes (AW-DED-P) Group is a world leader in arc welding processes and is building a range of new capabilities to advance robotic arc welding and robotic DED additive manufacturing and repair.  The AW-DED-P Group is looking for an Engineering Intern to support our engineers and technicians with project work, and to perform tasks that allow the group to operate more efficiently as a whole.  During the program, interns will transition from a technical labor-based position to that of a functioning engineer, gaining exposure to different industries and technologies along the way.  During the summer semester, interns work 40 hours a week with potential for some overtime hours.  

Minimum Requirements

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Desire to work in hands-on lab environment and research environment
  • Education and experience in arc welding and/or robotic programming
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively present to a group
  • Proven adaptability and flexibility as a part of a team
  • Solutions-oriented mindset
  • Seeking to learn from leading minds in innovation 
  • Hands-on arc welding experience desired
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Laboratory/light production floor with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level;
  • Use finger dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, manipulate, and measure;
  • Frequently move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stoop, bend, and crouch; and
  • Lift 10 to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and 40 to 80 pounds occasionally

 

ENGINEERING CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in engineering at an accredited university
  • Engineering disciplines preferred:
    • Welding
    • Automation
    • Materials Science
    • Mechanical
    • Other relevant areas of study
