Summary of Job Duties:
The APRN works as a collaborative member to provide comprehensive pain management and assist in the preoperative evaluation of patients needing surgery, diagnostic imaging, and other procedures. The pain team cares for a wide variety of ages ranging from neonates to 21 years old in the outpatient, in-patient, and perioperative areas. The role of the APRN is to help facilitate care together with the pain service attending and the primary teams. The APRN also provides backup coverage for the chronic pain clinic as directed by the Chief to ensure continuity of care for patients. We are looking for an energetic, hardworking, and collaborative candidate who has a drive to grow the pain service at Arkansas Children's to make children better today and healthier tomorrow!

Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing.
  • National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. May have a certification as a Pediatric Nurse practitioner in either acute or primary care.
  • Certification as a Pediatric Nurse practitioner in acute care is required for inpatient settings.
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Program (AANP), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or National Certification Corporation (NCC).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to perform the job (e.g. scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, ultrasound machines, and EKG machines).
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Two years of experience in an ICU setting, emergency department, or palliative care setting.
  • Two years of experience as a pediatric nurse.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Prescriptive authority and a DEA license must be obtained before hire.
  • Proficiency in pediatric physical assessment.

Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
  • Provides comprehensive patient care management within a collaborative practice model, with functions and duties as outlined in the physician/APRN practice agreements.
  • Provides culturally sensitive patient care that is in accordance with state licensure and regulations, and is based upon the standards of practice as defined by APRN certifying agencies (PNCB, ANCC).
  • Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates care of the pediatric and adult burn patient working collaboratively with other health professionals using approaches that recognize each one’s expertise to meet the needs of the patients.
  • Serves in an advocacy role on behalf of patients, families, staff, and caregivers to ensure safe, equitable healthcare provision
  • Facilitates appropriate follow up care and/or refers patients (within the designated patient population) to the appropriate next level or site of care.
  • Consistently works to eliminate communication barriers, participating as a key member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Serves as an educational resource for patients, families, health care professionals, students, and lay public regarding area of clinical subspecialty. Assists in development, creation and implementation of educational programs.
  • Utilizes research to identify, examine, and evaluate creative approaches to health care with the goal of improved outcomes for the patient and family.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement based on professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Expands clinical and professional knowledge base.
  • Accepts personal responsibility for professional development and the maintenance of professional competence and credentials.
  • Continuously conducts self-evaluation of advanced nursing practice skills in an effort to ensure competent clinical care and continued self-development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
