TSMC is proud to offer full-time employment in the TSMC Facilities Technician Apprenticeship. This unique opportunity allows employees to learn and grow their career towards an advanced Facilities Technician role and beyond while working in the field.


The apprenticeship is a 36-to-48-month Facilities Technician training program. Training includes a combination of on-the-job training, instructor-led classes, web-based courses, and college courses. Required college courses are available through Estrella Mountain Community College.


No previous semiconductor industry experience is required! TSMC is looking for strong team players with mechanical aptitude, who can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize activities.


Knowledge and Personal skills:

  • The Facilities Technician Apprentice must have base understanding of industry safety practices and the ability to apply maintenance and operation of site systems.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workplace
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other technicians, supervisors, engineers, and managers
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sound decision making skills
  • Effective written, verbal, presentation, and listening communications skills
  • Computer skills including the ability to operate corporate email, spreadsheets, word processing, engineering drawing databases
  • Capable of working independently and exhibit effective time management skills
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed for business purposes, or to be called-in to work in the event of emergency or business needs.
  • The Facilities Technician must have an appropriate focus on personal, process, and work force safety.

As an employee, you will be trained to support routine Facilities Operations and Maintenance needs. This includes:

  • Routine maintenance on Pumps/fans/AHUs/chillers/exhaust
  • Mechanical Principles (technician equivalent of statics, dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics)
  • Pump/fan shaft alignment/ pump seals, lubrication
  • Gases & fluid handling/ line charging
  • Basic Chemistry (Acids, Bases, Salts, Compounds & Elements)
  • Ability to safely work with Hazardous Gases & Chemicals
  • Piping & filtration, regenerate Mixed Bed
  • Equipment Control Circuits & Test Instruments
  • Power system charging/energizing distribution panels & lighting
  • Operate Generators & UPS
  • Perform oil analysis on Transformers
  • Electrical Maintenance on LVSG, Generators, etc.
  • Sensors - analog & digital, calibration and understand operations
  • Read and understand Control Logic (ladder logic)
  • Tune different types of Control Loops
  • Basic Automation
  • Basic Troubleshooting

Requirements:

  • HS Graduate or GED, required
  • May spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.
  • Required to regularly lift to 50 lbs. and to adjust heavy objects.
  • Foreseeably the position will meet sharp, hot, and cold equipment, and parts.
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a personal respirator.
  • Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with industrial chemical operations, exposure to the sounds associated with powered tools and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders, and work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs, or platforms, and the ability to work in confined spaces.
