The Applications Analyst I is responsible for maintaining and monitoring existing applications. Assists with evaluating, designing, and developing small-scale applications as projects are assigned.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with design and development as well as ongoing maintenance of information systems solutions.
- Analyzes, designs, develops, and implements small-scale in-house software systems and customizes third party software as needed in Java, JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and Oracle 12c.
- Performs routine application upgrades.
- Responsible for testing upgrades and new applications.
- Resolves technical issues by investigating and diagnosing system faults and errors.
- Schedules regular tests to enhance the current system and application.
- Collaborates to ensure a high level of communication with the College's community.
- Responsible for providing a continuation of service delivery and continuous point of contact for service users and staff alike outside of normal office working hours.
- Keeps abreast of trends and developments in technology.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field required.
- At least one (1) year of related work experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
- Proficiency working with Oracle 12c or later, SQL, Java, JavaScript, JSP, ASP.NET 4.0+, Dynamic HTML, and Web Services.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical and professional manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Security Sensitive position: All applicants are subject to a national criminal background check under South Texas College policy.

- Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
- Oracle, Java EE and Web Services, MCSD: App Builder, MCSA: Web Applications, CodeUp Full Stack Web Development Program or program with similar curriculum, preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine..
- Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

- Standing particularly for sustained periods of time.
