The Esophageal and Airway Treatment (EAT) Program at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital cares for infants, children and young adults with complex esophageal and airway problems, including esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula, long gap esophageal atresia, tracheobronchomalacia, refractory esophageal strictures, esophageal replacement, and vascular ring anomalies. The EAT APRN/PA will work closely with the surgeons, patients, and families in the inpatient setting primarily. The majority of patients are regional or national referrals for complex conditions that require a multidisciplinary specialized team for management and surgical correction. The APP role is instrumental in providing continuity of care for these complex patients often in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting throughout their hospital stay. Excellent communication between multiple providers, teams, and units is essential.

Schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week

APP to work with the EAT Program as well as the General Surgery/Trauma team. This APP will work the majority of the time with the EAT Program, providing coverage during the week, as well as 1 weekend per month for EAT rounds (approximately 4 hrs/day) and some coverage with the General Surgery/Trauma team- approximately 1-2 shifts per month. These shifts may include a weekday or weekend day or night shift. The shifts are subject to change/vary with the evolution of the service line.

The General Surgery/Trauma team provides care for infants, children, and young adults with a wide range of medical diagnoses including but not limited to: appendicitis, hernias, chest wall deformities, GI disorders, traumas, etc. They provide pre-op, peri-op, and post-op care to the patients and families.

Minimum Qualifications:

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

  • Masters or Doctorate from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Florida APRN licensure and national certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner- Acute Care
  • 1-year Pediatric Acute Care PNP experience preferred
  • BLS and PALS certification will be required prior to start date.

Physician Assistant

  • Graduation from an APAP (ARC-PA) approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Florida PA license
  • 1-year work experience in Pediatrics
  • BLS and PALScertification will be required prior to start date.
