Job description

Overview

The Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a Technician to assist the Bridge Inspection team leader in the planning phase and execution of all types of field inspections of assets assigned to the team. These assets can be located anywhere in the state on all types of highways. Regardless of the assignment area or an individual's residence, the home base for all inspection teams is Barre City Place.

This position assists the team leader with paperwork, photos, sketches, reports, and everything necessary to document the condition of an asset. The position is also responsible for maintaining equipment and the vehicle assigned to the inspection team. Learning the skills of inspection is largely done through mentorship and working closely with the team leaders. The assistant would, depending on ability and experience, perform ancillary asset inspections.

The responsibilities for this position require that the Technician travel to all parts of the state, working outdoors in harsh environments and traffic, wading in moving water, working in dark spaces, on ladders, traversing rough rocky slippery surfaces, and navigating steep terrain. There is a significant amount of fieldwork for this position from April through November. The remaining portions of the time are spent in an office environment performing inventory checks, data entry and verification, and working on special projects.

This position, AOT Technician I (Job Requisition #49580), is open to all State employees and external applicants.
If you would like more information about this position, please contact Jeremy Spooner at jeremy.spooner@vermont.gov.
