About Us:

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has played a vital role in shaping Ohio’s past and present and the work it does today helps chart the state’s future. The office consists of nearly 30 distinct sections that advocate for consumers and victims of crime, assist the criminal justice community, provide legal counsel for state offices and agencies, and enforce certain state laws. In these and other capacities, staff members interact with tens of thousands of Ohioans each year.

What You'll Do:

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking a candidate for an Investigator position in the Antitrust Section. The successful candidate will be articulate, tenacious, focused, and self-motivated. The successful candidate will also have a proven ability to multi-task, analyze complex issues and complicated fact patterns, and gather relevant information through the use of a variety of sources including publicly-available information, witness interviews and subpoenaed documents and data. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential, including the ability to piece together various records including bank statements, emails, phone records and ordinary course business records to establish timelines and hypotheses of conduct. The ability to read financial documents and business documents is important, as the successful candidate will be called upon to assist in analyzing information needed to test certain legal theories and to assist with drafting subpoenas and document requests to obtain such information. The ability to collaborate with others is a must as well. The successful candidate will also have excellent interpersonal skills. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is 30 E. Broad St., Columbus.

Duties include but are not limited to:

-Reviews and analyzes high volumes of internal corporate documents, records and data; prepares and maintains case logs, investigative reports, summaries, and case recommendations.

  • Reviews and analyzes financial institution and telecommunications provider records;
  • Performs initial fact development for tips and leads received by the Section;
  • Conducts and assists with covert and overt investigations of anticompetitive activity for criminal and civil prosecution (e.g., conducts interviews and surveillance; collects, inventories, examines, evaluates, and preserves evidence; assumes covert identities).
  • Plans, executes, and coordinates investigative activities with federal, state, and/or local law enforcement agencies (e.g., assists prosecutors and law enforcement officers; prepares witnesses, obtains witness statements and affidavits; prepares and serves subpoenas; testifies at court hearings).
  • Participates in inter-office and multi-agency task forces and work groups; presents educational information to public and private groups and enforcement agencies; participates in investigative workshops, conferences, and training.

Field work, although constituting less than a majority of the investigator’s time, is required at times, involving travel throughout the state and at times to other states.

Qualifications


Completion of an undergraduate degree in Law Enforcement, English, Paralegal Studies, Political Science, Accounting, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Business Communications, or other related field.

Twelve (12) months experience completing background, criminal, or civil investigations.

Three (3) months experience in public relations/customer service.

Valid driver's license

Or

Three (3) years experience as a paralegal, plus

Three (3) months experience in public relations/customer service

Valid driver's license
