Summary:
Successful Special Education Teacher Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong abilities in the development and implementation of strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of diverse needs. Candidates must have a strong understanding of accommodating and modifying the general education curriculum for students with disabilities. Special education teachers must have the skills necessary to communicate and collaborate with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic needs.

Anticipated Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher Elementary Level (K-6)
for the 2024-2025 School Year
Qualifications:
- Certificate in cross-categorical in SPED or in the individual area of vacancy
- Degree in Special Education (B.S. minimum)
The successful candidate will:
- be able to work collaboratively with regular education and Special Education teachers
- possess creative instructional ideas to benefit all learners
- proactively plan for instruction for those with major academic delays
- have knowledge of key aspects of Math and ELA curriculum, including DLM Essential Elements.
- actively utilize differentiated instruction
- be able to effectively collect data on a regular basis
- use data to plan and drive instruction
- be willing to work with students individually or in small group
- work as part of the Special Education team in the building
- be able to implement behavioral management techniques with students, including but not limited to behavior plans
- develop accommodations to meet the unique needs of students in classroom, co-teaching, or inclusive setting
- prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
- employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- communicate effectively and proactively with parents
- familiar with implementing functional and life skills curriculum, utilizing visual supports/schedules, collaborating to implement augmentative communication systems
- be able to write comprehensive, data driven IEPs and coordinate services for students with paraprofessionals, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech/ language therapists
