Job description

As an Animal Welfare Auditor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our organization adheres to the highest standards of Animal Welfare and ethical practices. This position involves conducting thorough audits of our facilities, suppliers, and partners to assess and improve Animal Welfare conditions.


Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop skills in a variety of species and types of audits. Able and willing to audit all production animals.
  • Conduct audits at assigned facilities.
  • Assuring consistency and accuracy in all audits and audit reports.
  • Communicate with client in preparation for audit.
  • Maintain confidentiality about all aspects of work and adhere to all procedures established by FACTA and its auditing clients.
  • Follow and adhere to all required protocols and procedures including submitting a detailed time and expense report prior to firm deadline.
  • Schedule audit associated travel.
  • Meet required timelines for audit reports.
  • Communicate with management, producers and others as needed.
  • Able to work independently in a timely manner without direct oversight.
  • Exhibit foundational understanding of computer systems used in audit report process.
  • Effectively exhibit communication, listening, and problem-solving skills including asking questions. Escalate risks and issues beyond own experience or skill set.
  • Comply with Firm practice management procedures and systems.
  • Complete audit procedures that obtain sufficient appropriate audit evidence with a focus on quality and in accordance with applicable auditing standards.
  • Maintain professional skepticism including consideration of alternative and disconfirming evidence.
  • Complete tasks and deliverables to a high-quality standard.
  • Have a clear understanding of the importance of the work being completed and how it contributes to the audit objectives.
  • Keep senior team members informed of significant developments and progress on the engagement.
  • Exercise independent judgment on testing and procedures applied.
  • Intermediate knowledge of industry jargon in multiple species.
  • Assist with updating training programs and audit documents on an annual basis with control over the project and updates.
  • Travel frequency fluctuates throughout the year and can range from 60-80% with some trips beginning on Sunday evening. Audits are located across the United States and Internationally.
  • Attend industry conferences with experienced auditors/director and speak with current and prospective clients.
  • Understand and articulate FACTA’s different audits and which audits/services are conducted for certain clients.
  • Help with contacting select existing clients to arrange their upcoming audit schedule for the year.
  • Complete PAACO shadow audits and final training audits for new auditors.
  • Assist in the training process of new auditors under Director supervision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and education related to animal production and welfare is preferred.
  • Maintain at least 1 PAACO certification (poultry or swine).
  • 2+ years of Animal Welfare or animal husbandry experience required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • In-depth knowledge of livestock audit tools, procedures, and creation.
  • Ability to work extended hours during busy season.
  • Pork Quality Assurance certified.
