Job description

Animal Trainer and Behavior Consultants

Family Veterinary Mobile Clinic is seeking an experienced Trainer and Behavior Consultant to develop and implement dog and cat training programs and Behavior modification plans along with our veterinarians.

About Family Veterinary Mobile Clinic

Family Veterinary Mobile Clinic performs house call veterinary services to dogs and cats in the Sanford, Southern Pies, and Apex/Cary areas of North Carolina. We perform preventive care, chronic disease management, and Behavior medicine. Our practice also provides dog training, dog walking, and pet sitting services.

Our core value is “We are committed to happy, healthy relationships.” As such, we are committed to Positive Reinforcement as the only acceptable training method. All of our employees are Fear Free Certified and we practice in a Fear Free manner at all times.

About the Job

This position involves both basic animal training and Behavior modification in dogs and cats.

As the trainer, you will conduct both small group and private-in home training courses for dogs and cats in all of our service areas (Sanford, Southern Pines, and Apex/Cary and surrounding areas). Currently we offer Puppy Right Start, Canine Adult Basic, and Leash Walk training. We welcome candidates with experience and expertise in developing and implementing other training courses such as Canine Sports, and any sort of cat training. We emphasize Cooperative Care so pets are comfortable with veterinary exams, grooming, and medication administration.

For behavior modification, you assist the veterinarian. We accept both patients and non-patients into our behavior treatment program. You will have time to review the pet’s full medical history and a Behavior History before the initial consultation. The 2-hour initial consultation is conducted in the client’s home with you, the veterinarian, and the veterinary technician. We discuss the pet’s behavior issues, their goals, and expectations. The veterinarian diagnoses the behavior problem and may prescribe medications.

Once we all agree on a reasonable course of action with the family, you will work with the veterinarian to develop a behavior modification plan. Then you will coach the clients to implement the behavior modification plan by seeing them once weekly in their home as well as working with them through Zoom, phone, email, etc. Our typical behavior treatment plan is 6 weeks but some pets need additional sessions. You will report to the veterinarian after each session and keep thorough notes of in-person sessions and communications in our practice management software, Ezyvet. You will be working primarily independently after the initial consultation.
