Animal Services Custodian (Part-Time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Animal Services Supervisor, performs routine custodial cleaning at the animal shelter. Cleans and maintains shelters, and kennels, and feeds animals. (This shelter performs euthanasia of animals in accordance with applicable animal control ordinances, policies, and procedures.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Cleans facility: empties wastebaskets, vacuums, sweeps, dusts, and mops
• Cleans restrooms.
• Inspects areas for safety hazards.
• Cleans kennels and cat areas.
• Feeds animals.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education – High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience – Experience working with animals preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications – Valid Utah Driver License.

• Knowledge of –

• • Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial and grounds repairs and recognize needs for repairs.
  • Animal control procedure related to the care of large and small domestic animals.

  • Learn and follow standard safety practiced and procedures related to cleaning solutions.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

  • Organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Typical office setting with comfortable climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. May lift up to 50 pounds and move/drag up to 145 pounds. Position requires occasional working outdoors. May drive a motor vehicle.

The position is impacted by the necessity of uncontrollable workflow and the need to make quick decisions that may involve frequent interruptions. Frequent exposure to loud noises, unpleasant odors, cleaning agents, pet dander, zoonotic diseases, and dangerous animals that may bite, kick, or scratch. Exposure to animal body fluids in caring for their needs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• Varied and flexible schedule, possibly two to three times per week and most weekends for an average of two hours per shift:
  • Thursday to Monday on site
    OR
  • Friday to Tuesday on site
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision or alone at times.
• Salary range: $14.32-$22.90 per hour (Starting wage is dependent on experience.)
