Job description

POULTRY TECHNICIAN(Durham, NC) Priority One Services, a contractor of the largest global animal health company, is seeking a candidate with a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, plus two years animal related experience or education combined specifically with poultry. Candidate will be working in a laboratory research environment providing husbandry and technical support with poultry and eggs.

Job Duities:

  • Complete all required training online and OJT immediately after hire and continual training as required. Stay current on LZ online training.
  • As assigned, carry out required support for bio device testing, including incubation, candling, transfer, trials and cleanup
  • As assigned, carry out required general cleaning of facility, as defined by zone cleaning schedule and as indicated on task schedules
  • As assigned, carry out required set up pre trial and clean up post trial of bird rooms and Isolation Room, including individual isolation cages
  • As assigned, carry out required bird care during and for duration of studies in both bird rooms and Isolation cages in accordance with policy
  • As trained, carry out required support during studies with required vaccination, challenge, weighing, bleeding and other processes as needed.
  • As trained and if/as required provide all required support for lab, diagnostic and necropsy processes, including those done in ARC facility and in Diagnostic Lab at 1040
  • Assist Veterinarians, Project manager and project team, investigators, and other study related staff as needed in conduct of study and study tasks.
  • Complete all required documentation applicable to conduct of bird studies, facility sanitation and maintenance, and bio device support.
  • As assigned, carry out sanitation of incubators/hatchers, set, transfer, candling, hatch pull and required machine checks for all incubation and hatching
  • Maintain focus on animal welfare, reporting any and all concerns to management and/or others as posted.
  • Conduct all euthanasia (as trained) according to defined instructions, following all processes and completing all documentation
  • As assigned and trained, provide minor maintenance thru facility, including in bird rooms and isolation room/cages. Use Facility Dude for major issues.
  • Assist in maintaining all inventories, stocking all supplies for storage and keeping supplies stocked thru out facility.
  • Serve on rotation for weekend bird care and incubator checks (rotation dependent on number of available techs) and provide required weekend/holiday coverage
  • Be available on rare occasion (due to inclement weather) if/as needed to stay in hotel near ARC (expenses paid by Zoetis)
  • If/as required to support study conduct or bird care, come in early, stay late or come in at night or weekends
  • Possible empty rack delivery and egg rack pickup to/from local commercial poultry company
  • Follow all biosecurity requirements for ARC and for specific studies, including shower requirements (including washing hair) as defined by policy.
  • Follow all EHS rules and guidelines as applicable to the ARC
  • Support bird studies and bio device trials off site if necessary.
  • Participate in scheduled ARC meetings and 1:1 sessions with management as scheduled.
  • Completion of task schedule as assigned by ARC Coordinator. Work as team or solo, as required and assigned.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by ARC Management

Must be able to lift 40 lbs to 60 lbs, climb, stoop, bend, reach, and stand for prolonged periods. Be responsible and reliable to work independently when necessary, and maintain good customer relations. Candidate will be expected to work with and assist researchers, lead technicians, and managers. Demonstrated math and reading comprehension and good oral and written communication skills are all required. Demonstrated computer skills preferred .* This is a full-time position hours vary, typical hours are 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday – Friday, some weekend and holiday hours are required. Valid driver’s license required. Qualified applicant will be expected to complete and pass an employee background check, physical, and drug screen prior to being hired *.
