ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER
The City of Carlsbad is accepting applications for the position of Animal Control Officer. Job duties will include enforcing Animal Control ordinances in and around the City of Carlsbad.
Patrols the City and surrounding area in an assigned motor vehicle to capture stray, loose, injured, or unwanted animals using a variety of techniques and equipment.
Patrols the City and surrounding area to enforce Animal Control ordinances and document incidents on police reports, writing warnings and citations when violations are observed, animals captured, and owners identified. Picks up and disposes of dead and injured animals.
Knowledge of the City of Carlsbad's Animal Control ordinances. Knowledge of methods, techniques, and practices for capturing animals, including the types of equipment appropriate for use. Knowledge of the names and locations of streets in the City of Carlsbad.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department/City staff and the public. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, procedures, and guidelines. Ability to communicate using standard telephone and two-way radio equipment. Skill in capturing stray and/or injured animals.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to work closely with the public.
Minimum Qualifications : Must possess high school diploma or GED. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico operator's license. Must have an excellent work history to include stability and dependability. No prior felony convictions and must have background free of disqualifying criminal activity. Must be a U.S. citizen.
In addition to an excellent benefit package, starting hourly wage will be $19.66 - $21.84 depending on qualifications, training and previous experience.
Additional pay increase available for applicants with advanced educational degrees.
