Animal Caregiver

Job description

We are looking for a very hard working, highly dependable individual to join our small team in providing a joyful and positive environment not only for the animals who we provide care for but also for the volunteers, interns, and others who help us fulfill our mission.

Animal caregivers are responsible for feeding animals, enclosure cleaning and upkeep, building cleaning and upkeep, medication preparation and administration, record keeping, animal enrichment, supply inventory, and assisting with minor medical procedures. Caregivers are also responsible for cleaning and upkeep of property (mowing, weeding, raking, brush removal and clean up, and grounds cleaning, etc.), making necessary deliveries and pick-ups, picking up and loading food donations from local stores and unloading food donations at sanctuary, garbage dumping, assisting with caging and equipment repairs, maintaining and operating necessary equipment and vehicles to complete assigned tasks, and any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

You must be able to communicate well with your team members and supervisors, be observant to minor changes in animal behavior, work outside in all weather conditions, have good problem solving skills, and be adaptable to changing conditions (i.e. weather, emergency response, etc.).

Qualifications

Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal husbandry practices, and basic animal care techniques.

Familiarity with aseptic technique for maintaining cleanliness and preventing the spread of disease

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with team members and provide updates on animal care

Job Type: Full-time

Starting Salary: $14.00 per hour with opportunity for pay increases after training and for performance.

Schedule:

• 8 hour shifts : 8:30am-5:00pm
• must be available to work weekends; typically have one weekend day off and one week day off
• must be available to work some holidays
• some overtime may be necessary

• Nicholasville, KY 40356: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
• we work in all weather conditions, so must be able to fulfill work commitments even when weather is bad

Education:

• Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

• Animal care: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Required)
