Job Summary

We are looking for an Animal Care Technician IV to join our Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs team in Lexington, MA and Cambridge, MA.

In the Animal Care Technician IV role, you can do that by providing oversight and mentorship to the Animal Care Technicians and program to ensure the health and well-being of all the animal species, as well as the integrity of the research.

What you will do!

In the role of Animal Care Technician IV, you will assist the Animal Facility Manager in creating the daily husbandry schedule, providing backup for daily cage wash and sanitation as needed, conducting room inspections to assess animal health/cage environment, and submitting electronic record entries into Alexion's Vivarium Management System. Furthermore, you provide leadership and guidance to the husbandry staff on operations and facility issues. This includes investigating operational concerns, gathering and compiling information, and submitting recommendations for resolution to leadership.

 

As the Animal Care Technician IV, you will be responsible for monitoring daily animal health by conducting observations, breeding, weaning, and manipulation of various animal species. Additionally, you will assist with animal husbandry duties to uphold the quality and health of the research animals. This involves recording animal health concerns and maintaining records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas. You will also be involved in restraint, and handling, as well as providing simple veterinary care and treatments. Your duties extend to receiving, inspecting, and organizing incoming animals. A working knowledge of general company and safety policies and procedures, as well as MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances, is essential for this role.

Job Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

A candidate that possesses a high school diploma or GED is required, (a B.S. in either animal science or similar discipline preferred); has a minimum 5 years' related Animal Care and handling experience in combination with facility and equipment knowledge. Prior supervisory experience or experience in a leadership role desired.  LAT certification preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for what is listed.

 

The pay range for this position is $30-32 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
