Pope Memorial Humane Society - Cocheco Valley is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Technician to join our team. Responsibilities:
- Clean kennels daily, ensuring fresh linens, sanitized walls, and removal of waste
- Provide fresh water and clean dishes and laundry for animals
- Handle animals for adoption, surrender, foster
- Facilitate interactions with dog walker volunteers
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness in the areas designated for cats and small animals, and collaborate with volunteers responsible for their care
- Implement dog enrichment activities in designated areas such as the Almost Home Room and Pavilion
- Facilitate self-play enrichment for all animals in shelter care
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for handling, feeding, sanitization, cleaning, and other tasks
- Communicate any concerns regarding shelter needs, staff, Animal Care, etc., to the manager
- Follow procedures for cleaning, quarantine, medical care, etc.
- Communicate supply needs to the manager for timely ordering
- Ensure completion of daily task lists
- Organize and sort donations received by the shelter
- Assist the Medical Team with routine care tasks
- Maintain accurate record-keeping, documenting observed behaviors and inputting data into shelter management software (e.g., Shelterluv)
- Read and respond to the communications log
- Follow Behavior Plans for all animals under the shelter's care and collaborate with Training and Behavior staff to meet the needs of each animal
- Other tasks may be assigned as needed
Requirements:
- Previous experience in Animal Care preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues
- Commitment to animal welfare and compassion for animals in need
- Ability to handle a dog is required
