SalaryProgressive, fast-paced three doctor veterinary clinic located in downtown Fairhope, Alabama is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Animal Care assistant. Candide must have a compassion for animals, excellent communication skills, and express a friendly and compassionate spirit while working in a team setting. Colony Animal Clinic has been newly renovated and is equipped with a large boarding area which includes: 2 large dog suites, 8 large dog runs, 13 dog cages, and a separate cat room with 6 kitty condos.
Responsibilities:
- Observe/record animal appearance and activity.
- Handle/Restrain animals as required and needed.
- Assist veterinary technicians with treatments/procedures as needed.
- Walk hospitalized and boarding dogs several times a day.
- Bathe and perform pedicures as required.
- Provide care for all boarding animals.
- Discharge and admit animals at the request of receptionists/technicians.
- Assist with administering medication to patients.
- Clean/disinfect and maintain kennels, cages and runs as often as necessary.
- Launder and dry towels/blankets.
- Patrol hospital grounds, pick-up trash and stool material.
- Perform general cleaning in other areas of the hospital.
- Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
- Communicate with and educate owners on products and routine patient care.
- Input information into computer software system.
- Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, doctors and the practice philosophy.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate and handle high-stress situations while maintaining a professional manner.
Our clinic is open 7:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday-Friday, while technicians/Animal Care assistants will also be required to be on a weekend/holiday rotation to conduct treatments/care during non-business hours for our boarding and hospitalized patients.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED Required.
Qualifications:
- Basic Animal Care knowledge required.
- Veterinary experience a plus!
- Must be able to work 10-hour shifts.
- Computer skills necessary and required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Salary is based on experience.
