The 99th Medical Group – also known as Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center – is one of the Air Force’s leading academic and medical centers of excellence and is comprised of approximately 1,800 personnel who are dedicated to providing preventative, emergency and acute care services for approximately 48,000 active duty personnel, retirees and their dependents.

The Anesthesiologist shall provide the following services and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols set forth by the Military Treatment Facility and guidelines to include, but shall not necessarily be limited to the following:

  • Provide consultation services and anesthesia for surgery patients of all age groups after the need for surgery is determined. Interviews, performs thorough and complete pre-anesthetic assessment and examines patients as necessary. Orders and interprets ancillary tests (laboratory, imaging).
  • Provide full general, regional and local anesthesia services as required for surgery. Capable of providing sole anesthetic care without routine assistance from his or her anesthetic colleagues.
  • Formulate a care plan, educate patients and order therapy, including prescription medications as needed.
  • Record pertinent data in the medical record and relay outcome to the primary care provider and surgeon.
  • Perform follow-up of patients as needed.
  • Transfers responsibility for the care of the patient to other qualified practitioners in a manner that assures continuity of care and patient safety.
  • Provides consultation/backup for CRNA’s as needed.
  • Adheres to on-call availability and provision of service.
  • Maintains appropriate DoD, AF, and/or state licensure and certification requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. Successful completion of an internship and residency program. Must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training). Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience beyond residency training.
  • Board Certification: Board eligible or Board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) (Course C), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Supports (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certifications through the American Heart Association.
  • Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in any State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have a current, valid DEA registration number before performing the contract services.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Schedule:

  • Normal hours during the weekday are from 6:30am – 3:00pm, 6:30am – 5:00pm, 6:30a – 7:00pm.
  • If necessary or in place of normal hours, in-house call shifts are weekday 5:00pm – 6:30am, or, weekend/holiday 7:00am – 7:00pm with a post-call day off. If needed, call shifts will be in rotations and range from 0-2 per month.
