Job description

Scripps News is seeking an Anchor to join our weekend news team. This person will be responsible for researching, pitching, writing, producing, and presenting fair, balanced and accurate stories on a 24/7 US network.
What You'll Do

  • Anchors newscasts and presents segments on air and/or on digital platforms.
  • Researches and verifies news information.
  • Editorially prepares for live news reports and live guest segments.
  • Actively participates in daily editorial meetings helping to formulate news stories by pitching ideas based on missions and research.
  • Uses social media to drive consumers to television.
  • Communicates effectively with assignment editors, news producers, photographers, and managers regarding story development and/or breaking news stories.
  • Develops and grows contacts with community, political leaders, and key figures.
  • Stays informed regarding current events on a national and international level.

What You'll Need
  • 8 years' experience as a television reporter and/or news anchor.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Proven experience presenting stories on air in a professional manner during pre-packaged reports and live interventions.

What You'll Bring
  • Must be fully fluent in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions, and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment.
  • Understanding of I News and learn systems as implemented.
  • Ability to enterprise ideas and work well independently.
  • Excellent writing and researching skills.
  • Strong understanding of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, dead-line driven environment.
  • Field production work and experience.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills combined with a strong sense of how to visually tell a compelling story desired.
  • Creative and highly organized.
  • Detail oriented and proactive.
  • Team-player, cooperative and energetic.
  • Experience being actively engaged in editorial processes and meetings.

Work Environment
  • Willingness to travel with short notice and on weekends.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including overnights, weekends, holidays and/or last-minute scheduling changes in a 24/7 operation.
