Lead global efforts to ensure analyzer reliability for environmental regulations, product quality and variable cost targets through advanced process control to meet Olefins and Polymers (O&P) and Intermediate and Derivatives (I&D) Business requirements. Work collaboratively across site subject matter experts to establish best practices and proactively drives continuous improvement through operational excellence tiered documents, timely knowledge sharing, and expense or capital projects. Interacts with industry subject matter experts and suppliers to understand the latest technology and apply as applicable for differential performance.
It is preferred that the individual is located at HEC, to collaborate with other automation engineering disciplines and travel to sites globally to support continuous improvement, projects, and troubleshooting activities.
- Function as the analyzer and gas detection technical expert on capital projects
- Provide engineering design and specifications to support procurement and construction activities for projects
- Review design drawing and engineering specifications to ensure conformance with relevant standards and practices
- Serve as technology expert liaison between project engineers, plant maintenance and reliability, and operations personnel
- Interact with engineer and construction contractors, both on-site and off-site
- Develop and execute factory acceptance test procedures for new analyzer systems
- Provide commissioning and start up assistance with maintenance and process analyzer support
- Support the development and execution of the analyzer and gas detection long range plans as Capital Program Focal Point
- Support the Analyzer Technical Network to establish best practices and drive continuous improvement
- Identify new analyzer technologies and evaluate suitability and maintainability, as well as areas in which analyzers can improve plant operations and profitability
- Identify opportunities for improved process analyzers, sample systems, and online analytical services, i.e. pertaining to quality, cost and reliability
- Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of Analyzer Engineering standards and operational excellence documents
- Provide mentorship to less experienced Analyzer Engineers and promote the use of TKM to share lessons learned
- Direct critical activities requiring knowledge and expertise concerning analyzers and gas detections systems including on-site troubleshooting efforts and site investigation teams
- Effectively communicate issues, plans, goals, accomplishments, and recognition of others
- Experience with on-line analyzers such as GC, IR, CEMS, Oxygen, Water Quality, Gas Detection, etc., in a refinery, petrochemical plant, or similar industry
- Knowledge of various analyzer technologies and hardware and how they apply to petrochemical plants
- Knowledge of sample conditioning principles and hardware and how to apply them to process analyzer systems
- Technical knowledge of analyzer design, specification, documentation, installation and maintenance
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Chemistry required
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in industrial chemical plants required
Other Skills
- Knowledge of industry codes such as applicable ANSI/API codes, ISA standards, CFR, NEC, NFPA preferred
- Practical experience with control systems and instrumentation preferred
