Job description
Job Summary:
You will be responsible for performing multiple chemical analyses in a high throughput analytical laboratory using multiple types of equipment (GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, etc). You will provide support for lab analysis through routine sample prep and analysis and basic instrument maintenance, as well as assisting in method development and troubleshooting problems that arise.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform sample preparation, analysis, and data review utilizing validated analytical methods.
- Have experience with HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, PCR, and standard laboratory equipment.
- Develop, validate, and document new analytical methods, requiring existing technical knowledge and the ability to rapidly learn new fields. Investigates, develops, and establishes new and/or improved extraction and analysis methods as needed to improve efficiency and maximize throughput of testing in the laboratory.
- Regularly observe equipment for any abnormalities, preform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of associated equipment.
- Use critical thinking to make decisions based on results and experience.
- Effectively multitask and coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain and follow all laboratory methods, protocols, and SOPs; follow other company procedures, guidelines and policies.
- Follow safe lab practices, and keep and maintain accurate laboratory records.
- Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized, and efficient laboratory work environment.
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory accreditation status with a constant mind for future audits.
- Perform cleanup actions such as emptying tubes, clearing old samples from inventory, etc.
Qualifications, Requirements, and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university is required, but can be substituted with 5+ years’ laboratory experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in a regulated or high throughput laboratory environment is preferred.
- Exceptional wet laboratory technique and commitment to precision and accuracy.
- Ability to document actions in accordance with ISO/NELAC standards.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database/LIMS systems
- Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
- Candidate must have some hands-on familiarity with the analytical instrumentation: HPLC, GCMS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, PCR.
- Some knowledge of microbiology and sterile technique is beneficial.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Flexibility in work hours: this position may require work outside of normal business hours. Weekend and evening duties are occasionally required.
