The Ammunition Inspector is responsible for the accomplishment of duties in accordance with Army and Fort Bragg policies, procedures, directives and regulations. Performs the activities of ammunition receipt, inspection classification and repacking of ammunition items with in the ASP. Inspect and process Amnesty and Found on Post (FOP) and all other duties assigned as dictated by mission requirements.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. 

 

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  • Reviews unit paperwork for accuracy and for compliance with existing regulations.
  • Process ammunition received from Amnesty Box or turned in as Found on Post by units.
  • Develop ammunition load plans for units drawing ammunition from the ASP to ensure compatibility and load capacity is not violated.
  • Inspect vehicles IAW DD form 626 MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION (TRANSPORTING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS) prior to entering the ASP for compliance with existing regulations.
  • Inspect and certify loaded ammunition laden vehicles for proper blocking and bracing to ensure no violations of compatibility and load capacity has not been exceeded.
  • Ensure load is properly secured and placed In accordance with CFR 49 and Ft. Bragg regulations prior to exiting the ASP.
  • Ensure each vehicle compartment with ammunition has an accurately signed DD Form 2890.
  • DANGEROUS GOODS SHIPPING PAPER/DECLARATION AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE INFORMATION FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRANSPORTED BY GOVERNMENT VEHICLES
  • When QASAS is not available to cut the seals and inspect commercial vehicles delivering to the Fort Bragg ASP it will be accomplished by Inspectors in accordance with MOA.
  • Conduct serviceability inspections of ammunition brought or returned to the ASP. Ensure ammunition is safe, repackaged properly for storage and accounted for prior to being delivered to the storage location.
  • Recommend Condition Codes to be assigned to turn in ammunition.
  • Ensure ammunition marked for OCONUS Missions are properly packaged and marked prior to issue.
  • Ensure all assigned storage locations/work areas are locked and IDS system at the end of the business day.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

  • Desktop Computers
  • Multi-line Telephone
  • Two-Way Radio
  • Multi-Functional Devices
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as Face Mask, eyes, hand, head, and approved safety footwear.
  • Material Handling Equipment (MHE)
  • Banding equipment and related items

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Operate mainly in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
  • Safely operate all assigned Material Handling Equipment (MHE)
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment.
  • Function in an office environment in a stationary position.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate in a prolonged standing environment up to 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven ground and within work various sites at times in the performance of duties.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as a Face Mask, Conductive safety boots, Hard Hat, Safety vest, eye and hand PPE.
  • Face Mask that covers the nose and mouth is required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Basic Ammunition Certifications (Ammo-45,63,64,67 and 68)
  • General Transportation of Hazardous Material (Ammo-62), upon recertification (Ammo-37)
  • Intermodal Dry Cargo (Ammo-43)
  • Army Electrical Explosive Safety (Ammo-28)
  • Environmental Considerations for Ammunition Personnel (Ammo-31)
  • Munitions History Program (Ammo-97)
  • Risk Management and Preparation of SOP for Ammunition and Explosives Certification (Ammo-54)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Liberty Military Installation

SECURITY CLEARANCE:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
  • Must be able pass local ammunition security screenings and must be able to pass the background check to have unaccompanied access to arms, ammunition and explosives.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Command Access Card (CAC)
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have (5) years of related experience working with ammunition.
  • Possess high ethical standards and demonstrate professionalism. Ability to work independently or in a team-based, highly collaborative environment. Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to interact at all levels.

SKILLS:

  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Must be able to problem solve and perform research using related applicable regulations.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team-based, highly collaborative environment.
