Job Summary:
  • Under the supervision of the lead Ammonia Technician, the Ammonia Technician is responsible for the maintenance activities pertaining to the heating, ventilation, and HVAC systems.
Job Duties:
  • Record bi-hourly readings of ammonia levels.
  • Monitor the operation of the single-stage ammonia system.
  • Maintain and repair liquid, suction, and hot gas valves within the system.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on condenser tower fans, V.F.D. (Variable Frequency Drive), and water pumps.
  • Service and repair liquid ammonia pumps as needed.
  • Maintain and repair dock doors and levelers.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on evaporator fans and valves.
  • Maintain and repair the dual interlocking fire system.
  • Review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) annually and as updated.
  • Monitor and repair under-floor heating units.
  • Troubleshoot alarms and address temperature loss issues.
  • Maintain and repair 13 cooling tunnels and pre-coolers.
  • Service and repair H.V.A.C. (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) units.
  • Complete monthly preventative maintenance of the entire ammonia system.
  • Ensure the engine room is maintained in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Maintain the minus 40 spiral freezer.
  • Maintain the water chiller.
  • Uphold responsibilities for food safety, food quality, and food defense.
  • Perform tasks in various environments, including working in a minus 10 freezer, a minus 40 spiral freezer, confined spaces, or at heights exceeding 10 feet.
  • Wear an air-purifying respirator as required and work in all weather conditions.
  • Be available for on-call duty at all times and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Manage job-related stress and handle physical demands such as walking long distances, lifting heavy weights (50-75 lbs.), and climbing ladders.

Qualifications:
  • Have a R.E.T.A. 1 and or I.I.A.R. certification
  • 2 years experience in Ammonia Refrigeration
  • EPA certification.
  • 410A certification.
  • Understand mechanical schematic drawings
  • Have a general understanding of plumbing
  • Be able to read and write English
  • Experience with Industrial Refrigeration units
